Thrilling Fights Fought in
Girl Alaska”
The young hero of the play anc
his pal go into the principal gam
bling house and dance hall of
thriving miner’s camp.
Here the bully of the town at-
tempts to steal the hero’s money
and gold watch and chain. A
rough and tumble fist fight ensues
which holds one spellbound, The
bully is getting the worst of the
fight and both of the men’s clothes
are in rags, when the lights are
suddenly switched off, and then
little darts of fire shoot here and
there from the pistols held in the
miner’s hands.
But the hero and his pal finally
manage to escape by slipping out
through a rear door, in the dark-
ness, and make their get-away in
safety.
This is one of the many big mo-
ments in the wonderful picture of
the snow-covered northland, “The
Girl Alaska,” which will be the at-
traction at the New Yale Theater
on Wednesday, October 29.

A Telephonic Tragedy
Many ludicrous even more num-
erous annoying and not a few cost
ly, situations are caused by the
imperfect telephone service with
which Kansas Citians are provided
at so much a month. But for one
South Side young woman there
was almost an element of the tra-
gic in a typical telephone incident
the other day.
The young woman recently lost
a very valuable and beautiful ring
—one containing a diamond set in
a cluster of sapphires. She duly
advertised her loss and promised
a reward to the finder.
The day after the appearance of.
her advertisement thre came a tele
phone call. A masculine voice at
the other end of the wire inquired ;
“Is this the ypung woman who
lost a diamond and sapphire ring?
I’ve found—Br-r-rjingle, jangle,
clatter, z-z-z-z-z—
And then the limpid voice of
Central asked, “Number, please?’
The young woman who had lost
the ring tried desperately to find
the source of the call, waited pat-
iently but in vain for it to be re-
peated, and now cannot look at a
telephone without a wave of hitter
ness surging up in her soul.—K. C.
Star.
