smiled the Bryan smile. The
ideas he advocated ten years ago
were then regarded as revo-

are regarded as conesrvative.
During the years of his public
life he has consistently fought
error and wrong as he saw it to
the bitter end, whether within
his own party or with the enemy.
But during all these years he
has remained the idol of the com- j

It is unlikely that Oklahoma
will have the liquor question re-
submitted this year. The time
for filing petitions under the in-
itiated bill prepared by the whis-
key crowd expired Jan. 26, last.
Since the Federal circuit court of
appeals has decided that eastern
Oklahoma has a variegated vari-
egated variety of both state and
national prohibition, the national
part being for twenty one years
or more, the whiskerites have
decided to back up.
And it is well they should. On
the eastern side we have prohi-
bition, and we have got it for
keeps. We do not feel like pay
ing the expense of supporting
the liquor traffic on the west side
of the state. It costs money to
run courts, supply jails, pay
sheriffs, supply almhouses, asy-
lums and penitentiaries, and this
is the harvest that the liquor
^traffic brings us.
Twice already the state of Ok-
our great cause. I am one who
will stick to my obligations ta-
ken when I joined the party.
When we pay our money for so-
cialist propaganda that is what
we expect. Anything conflict-
ing with religious views is detri-
mental-injurious to the cause
love. This week the Pioneer is
out with an able article by Oscar
Ameringer entitled “Evolution,,’
in which he gives us his idea of
the originan of man. It seems
he thinks the evolution of man
from some lower form essential-
ly fundamental in socialism.
This flatly denies the history of
creation, hence contradicts every
Christian’s religious faith in the
United States. This will not
turn a single Christian to Social-
ism, but will disgust them and
drive them farther away from
it. Comrade Owen knows this
as well as 1 do, and we hope he
will not allow any more irreve-
lant matter to appear in the col-
umns of the Pioneer.”
failed to act.
With the developmeot of this
oil field will come other indus-
tries, and real estate both in
towns and country will go, soar-
ing up higher and higher, just as
it has in other places.
A few years ago if you had
told the prairie cattle ranchman
that the time was not far distant
when old mother earth would be
belching out fifty millions of dol-
lars worth of oil to the Oklahoma
peoble every year, they would
have called you crazy, and possib-
ly tried to send you to the asy-
lum. The proof is now before
you.
We have just as good oil fields
at Wewoka as any oti.er place.
Whether you own a foot of land
or not, you are needed to help de-
velop this great oil field. Don’t
wait to see what the other fellow
does, but get busy,! and see what
you will do.
Local politics are being talked
to a limited extent. Prospects
are that there will be a bountiful
supply of candidates who are
willing to sacrifice everything in-
