CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COLUMN.
Sections of Interest From the Stillwater
Reading Room-
Gommlssioner’s Proceedings
SHOWING
CONFIDENCE IN-
SCIENCE.
CHRISTIAN
The growing confidence which is
placed in Christian Science by the
public in general, and by some phy-
sicians in particular, is admirably
illustrated by an article in your issue
of May 8, wherein a physician is
H made to say:—
j “Before I lie down on an operat-
^ ing table, I’m going to exhaust the
resources of Christian Science.”
It is now widely known thatChris-
w tian Science is daily and hourly heal
^ ing the sick organic and inorganic, of
Mj chronic and acute diseases, and often
^ after their cases have been abandon
m ed ss hopeless by those schooled in
materia medica. There is hardly
^ reader of your valued columns
who does not know of some such
^ case, either in his own family or
uj among friends.
4k Christian Science is growing at
U rate which has been called phenome-
nal, and this is due solely taitsprac-
Q tieal resalts in mental, moral, and
physieal regeneration. It is no ab-
stract theory to be merely believed,
but a Science to be demonstrated.
My impression is that since physi-
cians are engaged in healing the sick,
they must desire to use the best
^ means for accomplishing this end
which can be found. They realize
that if there is a simpler and there-
fore a better way of reaching desired
results, thay must have that way,
and Christian Science certainly pro-
wN vides such a way, since it is Chris-
V tian, because in accord with Christ's
N express command; and scientific, be-
© cause it produces definite, demon-
ic strable results.
9^ Christian Scientists are wdi aware
of their own shortcomings in follew-
2 ing the commands of the great Ex-
© emplar, but they are putting forth
W conscientious eiTorts to reach a high-
W er understanding. In the mean time,
^ their attitude towards the members
^ of the medical fraternity is very ac-
curately described by Mrs. Eddy
When she writes:—
“Great respect is due to the mo-
tives and philanthropy of the higher
2 class of physicians. We know that
N if they understood the Science of
$ Mind-healing, and were in possess-
M ion of the enlarged power it confera
W to benefit the race physically and
spiritually, they would rejoice with
us. Even thla one refom medicine
would ultimately deliver mankind
from the awful and oppressive bond-
tv age now enforced by false theories,
from which multitudes would gladly
1^ sscapse” (Science and Health with
Key to the Scriptures, p. 151).
