NOVEMBER ELECTION.
The election comes in Novembe
but the av
erage republican paper be
nins its political misrepresentatlor
early in the summer and one of the
cardinal principles of the republican
press is to educate the old soldiers to
hate the democratic party, by lying
about the actions of the party on the
pension question. The national house
of representatives has been demo-
cratic the most of the time since 187a
and an examination of Its record will
show that the democrats have passed
almost unanimously nearly every
pension law now on the statute books
besides hundreds of special acts The
democratic party is in favor 3f pen-
sioning every old soldier who served
his country truly and honestly but
they are opposed to fraud in the pen-
sion department and in rounding out
the frauds they may inadvertantly
strike some deserving veteran but in
every case of that kind so far they
have been reinstated. In the lan-
guage of President Cleveland: "The
pensions are for the soldiers not for
persons assuming the names of the
dead or who have never seen any
service in their country's behalf.
And in this respect the soldier should
be as anxious to clean out the fraud
as the democratic administration.
This is also the season previous to
an election when our republican
brothers of the press begin to love
the negro for his vote only. The
skeleton of Abraham Lincoln
brought from the closet and flashed
in the eyes of the negro, but when it
comes to giving their colored bretli-
eren an office he must take a back
seat and keep quiet. The negro is
expected to vote the republican ticket
on the memory of our beloved mar-
tyred President Lincoln, but if hon-
est Abe could arise from the grave
and see whither the party he loved
leave in disgust. Fellow citizens as
