SOW TO BL SIN ESS
rrillE ELECTION IS OVEBL Let's get busy now
1 an<l prepare for tLe cottoft and com. There will
bt a great crop this year, and a large part of it will
come to Lexington, if we go after it.
The thing for oar merchants to do, is to see that
all roads leading to Lexington are in good condition,
so that the farmer- can make this their market, even
thongh -ome other towns are the closest.
There's no need to say anything about the price,
because Lexington merchant.: always pay more for
the farmer- products than mvst t jwn- around her.

bad a lively time, not only because Omaha made elftl>-

are a live, hustling, energetic lot of men.
Under the above caption and inci lent to the
convention the Omaha Bee eays:
"All sorts of theories have been advance 1 as to
the motive power behind the progress of civilization.
"The preachers say it i= religion that makes the
human uplift.
"The scientist asserts that we advance only as
we ^ain power over nature.
"The ballard writer, ancient and modern, has
sung the answer in words of love.
"But the al men who are with us know better
because they know that it i- advertising that makes
the worl l go round.
"Advertising turns the wheel of industry.
"Advertising brings l iver and seller together.

the last 25 years. There lies' be-
fore us the Ice Cream Journal, a
well Jilled monthly magazine of 60
pages, which is replete with adver-
tisements id all sorts of mec hanical
devises and materials that enter in-
to the construction of this tooth-

Fully 40 of the CO pages are given

the making of ice cream.
It i- hide d .i revelation concern-
ing the extent to which this, onlv
one of the many products of the
cow has grown. The manufacturer
of condensed milk and cream with
breakfast foods and for family con-
sumption and in ice cream, has in-
creased enormously within even the
past decade. This increase has
been vastly in exce.-s of the intrease
of cows.
The wise and far-seeing farmer—
and if there is a man on earth that
ought to look ahead it is the far-1
mer—hould take note of tl con-
dition of things. Now is the time
to make preparations for the breeds
irig and raising of first-class dairy-
cows. The intelligence of the far-
mer cortceming the difference in
the quality of cows has also greatly
increased in the past few years.
He is seeing facts as tln-y actually
exist.
The general purpose, no-purpose
cow is a failure as a money-maker,

of -w many districts being given up
to milk shipping to cities and con-
densates. All these facts hold the
dairy industry back from over ex-
pansion and make it all the more
profitable for the farmer who will
engage in it with modern dairy in-
telligence.
It will not do, however, to engage
in it with the ideas that prevailed
even 25 years ago. Business any-
where is not managed with such
idea-. Modern life and modern in-
telligence and judgment. The dairy
farmer of today must be a to-day
man if he hopes to secure the best
profit on his investment.— Hoard -
