There is nothing which adds
so much to t'nc treasures its
power as its own thinking.
Lea in to think for yourself.
It is all very well to l.ear and
to read the wisdom of others.
But one should not let this take
the place of one,s Ovvn thoughts.
Many persons are like cisterns:
they are good to hold the thoughts
of others. But when the time
comes that they are forced to rely
on themselves they have no
power to do so. The outside
supply is cut oft and the cistern
runs dry. But if one is like the
river, constantly fed by its own
spring, then as the learning of
others come to one the stream
of one's learning widens and
deepens.

uninterruptedly and fearless of

enor.nous size.
Politness is as natural to
delicate natures as perfume is to
flowers. Shun idleness, it is the
rust that attaches itself to the
mosn brilliant metals.
