The Aid Society, of the Meth-
odist church has been organized
for several yeafs. It is made up
of the best women of Zexington
and is untiring in energy. They
help build the church, visit the

The Leadkk is indeed a leader
in these ends of the earth. It is
now eight years old and has
] prospered more than ever in the
last year.
Lydick and Latham one year
agocaptured the Cleveland County
Leader and cast their lot in our
midst as publishers of the same,
and instead of being a burden ur
dying a silent death is very pros-
perous and has become a means
of putting enterprize into the
people of Lexington. This paper
is edited by a couple of gentlemen,
Lydick and Latham, of very high
standing and very popular prest-
ajre, kind, generous and large
tressed. They are pushing every spirited toward all tl.e interests
energy to pay out a neat three of Lexington. We never knew a
room parsonage recently built.
They have repeatedly "pounded"
their pastor, Rev. Doomis. You
might search throughout the ter-
ritory and not find their equals.
Thej- are ready at every call.
They are unflinching in every du-
ty. 7he pastor has no greater
encouragement than his aid soci-
paper more freely thrown open to
the interests of our churches or
any other interests of our most
promising city.
Lexington, undeservingly, has
a very hard name abroad. The
Leader has done much in keeping
before the outside world every-
thing to the contrary. Churches,
ety. 7 hep are always at prayer- . hxlges and schools and their in-
meetings, Sunday school, etc. | terests have at all times found

playing its pleasing greetings of
gratitude upon our streets before
the office of the Leader.
One day the Leader was spry
ing around town as usual, and
had to wade a lake of muck and
mire, which was breeding de-
struction to the health of our com-
munity. The Leader at once,
with the mud hanging on his big
feet, took up the matter and kept
a spade and pick so prominently
in his columns till many busy
hands were seen draining that
miserable cesspool. Where the
frogs once croaked beside the road
roses now grow.
One hot, buttermilk-and-onion
July day just after dinner, the
Zeader rushed up to the office,
all asweat (with work) and found
the water bucket empty, and
vowed that he would fire his dev-
il or have waterworks in Zexing-
ton. For several weeks it was
nothing but waterworks, water-
works. Had not other more
weighty matters engaged his at
tention a crystal stream would
have been circulating our beauti-
ful streets, so nicely kept and
guarded from filth and trash by
Mr. King, our efficient street
commissioner.
One lovely night, though dark,
while the Zeader was pleading
his very soul into the heart of
one of our most charming girls, the
Zeader, missing the way a bit,
struck his big foot against a
stump, forgot the rest of his
speech, but took up the question
of light and pledged that beauti-
ful love that if she would forgive
his stumblings that before the
birds nest again he would have
electric lights flashing streams
of silver up and down the streets.
So it was not verv long until we
had the genius of K lison ehasintr
darkness from the smooth and
level streets of the most beautiful
locations for homes, Zexington,
the pride of Oklahoma.
On a beautiful spring morning,
j aniid the voice of birds, sweets of
• bursting buds and breaking in
ifant foliage, water was spread
: all over the streets, moving!
walks, bridges and fences, rush-j
ing into stores, women calling]
lor help it almost resembled a
Johnstown flood. North of town
we had a ^loud-burst. Since that
j day the Zeader has kept the sub-,
Iject of ditching red hot among'
' the people, of cutting a spill-way j
from Choteau to the Canadian.
The question had very little op-
\ position. A few days ago the
vote was taken and now the
|ditch will be cut.
There is no paper that ever
benefitted Zexington more than
| the Zeader. We should ever be
grateful to it. We most earnest-
ly hope it will find its way into
all homes.
Very sincerely,
Aid Society
e/er before. Our columns will
ever be open to all at all time-
and our efforts will ever be t
promote the interests and goo-
will of the public, whose mov
generous support we most thank-
fully enjoy.
Yours truly,
