"Don't Shoot—I'll Come Down"
i q\ i raiois like, said the tree toad,
v^-'l'vc twittered for rain all day;
Aud 1 ii"t up soon,
And hollered till noon—
But the sun hit blazed away,
Till I jest cluin down in a craw-
fish hole,
Weary at heart aud sick a soul.
"Dozed away for an hour,
And I tackeled the thing again;
And I sung, and sung,
Till I knowd my lung
Wan jest about to give in;
And theu, thinks I. ef it don't
rain now,
There're nothin' in siugiu' any-
how.
"Once in a while some farmer
Would come a drivin' past;
Aud he'd hear me cry,
And stop and sigh—
Till I jest laid baek at last.
Ami I hollered rain till I thought
my throat
Would bust wide open at ever'
note.
"But I fetched her! Oh, I fetched
her:—
'Cause a little while ago,
As 1 kind o* set,
With one eye shet,
And a singiu' soft and low,
A voice drapped down on my
fevered brain,
{Saying—'Ef you'll jest hush, I'll
rain."

working man is a man and that he
wants to be treated like a man. In
other words, he wants to be treated
precisely as you yourself enjoy being

"If you are in the employ of any
man—even in the highest position
in his establishment, be it factory
or shop—and if the man shows an
indifference to your personality you
dislike him, and some day you're
going to get even, aren't you? The
fire is smouldering. And for each
time he grumbles when you are ab-
sent a day to go to a funeral, or are
late from the bedside of a dying
member of the family, or are ill
yourself, you're laying up a grudge
that will be repaid in his own coin
with interest. Therefore, I fay
that men who are in the employ of
others ask lor more than money.
More money will not satisfy them
except temporarily. They will
take it, but they secretely chafe.
When there is a grievance, if they
have been naid in money alone, they
will be ready to join in with the
grieved spirits. Men who treat
their employes thus are the men who
can never lower their wages a dollar
nor a cent. Woe bo to them if they

coin in which the men are paid.

like men—even like gentlemen—
they can do a great deal with them.

the ultimate result of such poison-

"you will use it as a medium of ex-

premium on silver bullion it would
continue to accumulate indefinitely,
and would eventually be so plenti-

day, that when the silver became too
plentiful they would mould it into
bullets with which to shoot demo-

heard from a "pop" for some time.
Others say that "we could export
our silver." Yes, wc could do so;
but it would export at bullion value,
ami the people, as the government,
must stand the loss. Such a course
would be about as sensible as to buy
