Mie article A New Leadership De-
sired published in same paper
I lie tirst knowledge -101111 S. Al-
lan had that such articles were
written or published was when he
read the same in the Cleveland
County Enterprise Again iu y our
issue of December 26th under the
caption Asked and Received Not"
you allege that the Enterprise is
published by I (i Fox and edited
by John S Allan and further down
in the article you assert that
John marched down to the express
office In procure from agent Smith
11 list of the names of parties who
received shipments of booze and
was unable to secure such a list of
names from the agent.
As a matter of fact John S. Al-
lan is not the editor nf the Enter-
prise aud this fact you, as a pub-
lisher, know Because a person
writes articles occasionally which
a publisher accepts and publishes,
does not make t he w riter, the editor
ot the publication. In regard to
your assertion that "lawyer John"
marched down to the express office
" sto procure a list of mimes etc. was
refused the same, is an "inexcus-
able falsehood' for the reason that
had you called the agent to the
phone you would have been inform-
ed that Lawyer John" had made
no such request of him. We did
chance to be down at the express
office and notice the large number
ot packages of booze coining in,
and later when the editor of the
Enterprise inquired of 11s for local
news suggested to him that if he
was looking for a good wann news
item and one that would attract at-
tention and comment, he might say
something about tli" great number
of packages of booze received at,
'|S0 j t,he express office, and the editor
did write the local along the lines
we suggested, and the interest you
have taken in the item proves that
it attracted attention and comment.
In all fairness do you think
John should make a public apol-
ogy for something ha did not do?
In publishing in your paper the
three articles above referred to, in
not one of which was there a shred
or shadow of truth, as to "John's"
connection with the same, save
possibly as to a suggestion he made,
that might have inspired the booze
local, that in fairness to your read-
ers you should publish the above
article, the truth of which, if you
care to quest ion "John" will make
affidavit lo gladly , in order to show
to your readers the high regard
you have for the truth.
Iu guessing at authors of articles
editors sometimes make mistakes,
and iu gathering news from pro-
miscuous sources editors are some-
times led into error, but manly
editors always hasten to correct a
mistake or right .111 error w hen eal
led to their attention and we pre-
-nine you w II do so by giving this
letter space in yjur papei If you
feel that yon are due au apology to
your reader- you can make it
