Ye editor spent a half hour with
jailor I*. W. South wick, last week in
looking over the new jail. Blaine
county ma> rest easier in regard to the
retention of criminals now. No better
jail can be found In Oklahoma for its
size than the one nearing completion
in Blaine county. It is made of stone,
of good workmanship, has an 18 inch
cement floor and contains three steel
cages. These are of solid steel and
there is no possible chance for prison-
ers to get through the bars. A care-
ful-jaiU'r, one who has a proper con-
ception of the desperatian of criminals
and uses caution accordingly, need
have no jail breaks from the Blaine
county jail. We believe iD c .mrnend-

ship, its security, the commissioner-

One week ago Eagle City consisted
of cornfields and prairie. The latest
reports give it as a city of 2.000 ichab- 1
itants with a complete municipal or-
ganization, a bank in operation, a
daily newspaper established, a fairly
good hotel, four restaurants, seven
saloons and no end of gambling houses.
The residence section as yet boasts
of few structures other than canvas
tents, but all the business enterprises
are housed in substantial frame struc-
ture, many of which lack nothing but
paint of being completed.
On the morning of the opening the
lot drawing began at daylight. Each
boomer paid in $25 which entitled him
to a twenty-five foot business lot or a
fifty-foot residence lot, the selection
to be by lottery. As soon as the choice
sites were drawn the bidding of them
became lively and several sales were
made before 9 o’clock at from $500 to
$1,000 each.
It was on these lots that the mer-
chants who were already on the ground
with “knocked down” buildiugs and
stocks of goods established themselves
before nightfall. Only a third of the
lots were disposed of yesterday and
the drawing will continue until they
are all gone. It looks now as if Eagle
City will have 4.000 citizens by the
first of next week. It is to be a divi-
sion point on the Frisco line. •
The Choctaw Mill & Elevator Co.,
of this city, are offering the highest
market price for the next 60 days for
10.000 bushels of corn.
