The South Me Alester Survey.
Tin slay morning a second se* of
surveyors was set at work by the town-
site commissioners, the design being
to push to a completion the surveying
ind platting of the South McAlester
tovvnsite. The work lias progressed
slowly owing to many difficulties that
had to be uverenine. On much of the
ground already completed the linehad
to be iiewed through the timber, so
that one can now look down long nar-
row lanes, the pathway of the survey-
■rs. In other places the level could
ie made only a few feet at a timi
iwing to the rugged nature of the
surface, and the almost insnrniountti-
de rocky bluffs that nothing but a
surveyor or a goat could range. The
ictuni work of survey is alHiut hail
•ompleted and will lie pushed forward
vitli speed now tfiat tlie worst part of
he Territory lias been covered.
There was. of course, much prelim-
.nary work tube done. This was nec-
•ssaiy in the successful accom-
plishment of an undertaking of this
"•ha racier. That io lias been well done
inv one conversant with such work
sill testitiy. The commission deserves
he praise of all for their eonscieii-
lous care, a care tliat will elTectualli
jrevent any misunderstanding in the
uture, whan South McAlester is a
rreat eitv. The corners have been
•areftilly marked, in many eases chis-
•led in the great ledges of rock where
nlv a drill and dynamite could make
a;i> for a stake. In other places rock
nonuinents have been placed in addi-
ion to the stakes, in order to estub-
isli corners permanently.
The completion of the work can now
he estimated bv days rather than
weeks and montlk as all difficulties
to be met with have been provided
for.

CAPTURING A DESPERADO.
Let it be said in the first place that
there is nothing of the white feather
about "Tom" McTague. Heiscool.be

are not Gaffney. I don't want you. i

as a flash McTague. who had his own
gun in his outside coat pocket, drew it
and had the drop ou Gaffney.
"Now.” said McTague. "no more mon-

You march and do as 1 tell you.
McTague compelled both Gaffney
and Dooley to march outside the house,
threw them a pair of handcuffs with his
disengaged band and compelled them j
to p„t the handcuffs on themselves.
Then he inarched them down to his con-

I’nfortunately, however, the 'people
who had suffered from the depreda-
