Washington.- Pope Benedict's peace
proposals had not been received today
by the government, but Secretary
Lansing said the summary as publish-
ed by the Associated Preae «u sub-
stantially in accord with the unofficial
outline he has before him.
There is no change in the first im-
pression, that the allies certainly will
reject the proposal in its present form
and probably refuse to consider it at
all. There is a growiug probability
that in making clear to the world their
refusal they will restate their war aims.
Tn discussing tk* prole Me chonnela
of roinutuaieattea, Mr. loosing laid
that as the Vatican was without diplo
matic status here, be would, in all prob
ability come through a neutral embas-
sy, either Spain or Switzerland.
Deeliuing to discuss the war aims of
the allies on the grounjl that they
might change frequently, Mr. Lansing
said there had been no alteration in
the aims or plans of the United States
since his speech at Madison barracks.
Mr. Lansing declined to say whether
there had been any agreement with the
allies regarding the aims of the war,
hut intimated that all were in accord.
The Pottawatomie County Council of
Defense will hold a meeting in the Su-
perior Court room, Shawnee, Friday
nsght to arrange for some kind of dem-
onstration in honor of the boys who
will leave for the training camp next
month. Every one in the county is in
vited to attend this meeting, and it is
hoped that there will be a large attend
ance. Ladies are especially invited to
attend.

tempt to thwart the efforts of the
administrator to deal a crushing blow
to Prussiaiiism, are nothing more nor
less than valuable allies of the kaiser.
