A base ball fan likes to speak of
his favorite team In a short, brief,
but explanitory way. For instance,
every man who “roots” for Irwin s
Kansas City team, rejoices whan he
can call the aggregation the “Blooz.”
Oklahoma City got a happy name
when it dubbed the team the “Mets.
Guthrie calls Us team the “Senators."
Joplin has the “Smelters.” And so
on, down the base hall line.
Isn't there a cheerful name that
could he. tacked on the Tulsa team,
so the sporting editor of the papers
and the fans could write and speak
of the bunch without going through
the entire English larguage to tell It?
The matter has been brought to
the attention of Manager Shafft, and
he sees the wisdom of early relief,
and asks the Democrat, to come to
his assistance. In turn, the Demo-
crat is going to leave the proposition
to the fans and rooters.
By agreement, the Democrat is au-
thorized to offer a reward of a season
ticket to the games to the person
who will suggest the name best suit-
able to the situation. This ticket
will be issued, good for every game
on the home grounds, and of course,
no transferable.
Have you a guess? On this page
will be found a blank ticket
Fill it out and address it to the Sport
ing Editor, Democrat, Tulsa, where
it will be filed away, and a decision
made at an early date.
For the benefit of those who have
not given the matter any thought, it
might he stated that the Tulsa team
will wear steel gray uniforms, trim-
med In black. The manager’s nam*
is C. E. Shafft. The team will not
play Sunday games in Tulsa. There
are no Indians in the line-up. It Is
expected the pennant will land some-
where in the vicinity of Tulsa, and
that Shafft’a craft will carry it to the
masthead.
The decision of the name will not
be made until May 1, when the result
of a committee selected to make the
award will be anounced.
Fill this out:

Manager Shafft is having a hard
time getting off on the right foot with
his ball team. The hoys have all
reported for play and practice, hut
all games scheduled up to date have
been postponed or cancelled, so up to
date, there has been nothing doing.
It has been suggested considerable
interest might he created and a
small sum realized for the good of
the cause it it were possible to get
the regulars pitted against the locals.
There are enough good healthy, hus-
ky well-developed hall players In
town, who with a little practitce
would make a foe worthy of the Val-
ley team’s steel.
Why not get together on the dia-
mond.
The Democrat suggests the follow-
ing teams make arrangements for a
game this week or early next week:
Have you a nickname for the Tul-
sa Club.
Manager Shafft has released Joe G.
Love, second baseman.
Manager Shafft has made good wilh
the fans. As a manager he is getlng
results.
Slgman, a pitcher signed by Man
ager Shafft has fade dto show up
He has been ordered to report.
A man who enjoys the game of hall
remarked yesterday he had never
seen as fine a line of sporting goods
as is carried by the different houses
of Tulsa.
The prospects for a game between
the regulars and the locals in the
near future are good. Manager
Shafft will probably agree to the
game to he played next Monday.

Enjoys the Democrat.
S. H. Socwell, a grocer of Indian-
apolis, who has recently become in-
terested in the city of Tulsa, write^
concerning the Democrat, as fol-
lows; “I enjoy reading your paper
very much. I distribute it among m\
friends, who banter me to take a
trip to Tulsa. I can only see one or
two Improvements to be made in Tul-
sa, and that is sewer system and
paved streets. I suggest brick for
the business, and asphalt, for resi-
dence, the latter pavement is prefer-
able for all purposes, if not too much
difference in cost.”
