to proclaim the very oldnesB of the
country.
I had the experience of rambling
about the site of an ancient castle
which is said to date back to 400
years before Christ. What must have
once been the tower to the castle
is still standing. It is about 18 feet
high and Is built of flint rocks whb.h
are small and very irregular in shape
and held together with a very strong
cement. At the bottom of some
steps which lead about five feet into
the ground is a well curbed with
heavy stone blocks. I didn’t learn
just how- deep it is but it takes a
stone five seconds to drop to the
bottom. The castle is located on a
rather high bill.
The towns of England look very
odd as the houses are almost all ‘
built on the same plan and are
joined together in long rows—all
built of brick.
What little I have seen of France
does not compare at all with Eng-

Dear Friend:
Hello, J.. how are you? I am well
enough and hope you are. Say. boy.
this sure is some country over here.
I wouldn’t live here on a bet, if I
knew I’d win on it. The houses
are all made of stone and they sure
are old at that, and besides the
barns and the chicken bouses are
all built right in together with the
houses. They don’t ha'e to ^et *o»t

and gather the eggs. But you never
