And What is Your Opinion About
the Position Shawnee
Should Take?
THE SHAWNEE NEWS WISHES TO KNOW WHAT THE
PEOPLE'S WANTS AND OESIRES ARE IN THE MATTER
Vote the Ballot Below and Bring or Send
Your Vote to The News Office—Give Rea-
sons Why You A e for Statehood or
Why You Are Against It—Will Be
Publithed
The question of statehood is a paramount one in new state politics at
present; every man, woman child is interested in the future of Oklaho-
ma. There are under present conditions countless different sentiments
swaying the people either for or against statehood, all because of the differ-
ent views held on the unfair constitution. To the people of Shawnee the
case has a direct bearing more than in any other part of the new state.
By the terms of the enabling act Shawnee is the center of the new state.
The question now is whether the rank and file of Shawnee are willing to
accept the unfair and partisan constitution as the price of statehood.
Below you will find a ballot which you should vote according to your
position in the matter and bring or send to The News office. With each
vote five reasons are requested to be sent stating why you are for state-
hood or why you are not. The results of the contest will appear daily in
the News and as many reasons as possible. Never in the history of Okla-
homa have the people been forced to decide such an important question.
There being a division of opinion, we desire to ascertain if possible the sen-
timent of the people. This contest is open for all who desire to vote and
will continue until further notice. It will be a strong indicator of the way
the elections will go. Place an X in the square opposite either FOR or
AGAINST and leave the other blank.

No Trace of Missing Boy at Muskogee.
Muskogee, I. T., May 13.—The
whereabouts of Bernard McLain, the
twelve year old son of Mrs. McLain,
of 707 North Third street, who was
kidnapped Tuesday morning, still re-
mains a mystery, although the widow-
ed mother has spent days in the
search for her boy.
Last week Mrs. McLain sent postal
cards containing a photograph and a
description of the boy to all the sher-
iff and police throughout the country
in the hopes of locating the little fel-
low.
The last heard of the boy was at
Summit, where a merchant saw a man
who looked like a German tramp, feed-
ing the boy sweetmeats.

Troubles of the stomach, Heart er
Kidneys are merely symptoms of •
deeper ailment. Don't make the com-
mon error of treating symptoms only.
Symptom treatment is treating the
result of your ailment, and not tha
cause. Weak stomechh nerves—the
inside nerves—means stomach weak-
ness, always. And the heart and
Kidneys as well, have their inside or
controlling nerves. Weaken these
nerves, and you inevitably have
weak vital organs. Here is where
Dr. Shoop's Restorative has made Its
fame. No other remedy even claims
to treat the "inside nerves." Also
for bloating, billlonsness, bad breath
or complexion, use Dr. Shoop's Re-

Further Evidence Against Knowles
Lawton, Okla., May 13.—One of the
officers prominently conected with the
court martial of Corporal Knowles
charged with the shooting of Captain
Macklin, of Fort Reno, December 21,
has been ordered before the senate
committee on military affairs.
Lieut Barringshaw of Fort Sill,
Okla., acting prosecuting attorney, has
been granted more time to secure
witnesses and the case against the de-
fendant will be sifted thoroughly. Ad-
ditional testimony which Lieut. Bar-
ringshaw claims to be able to produce
will be used by the senate committee
Muskogee1, 1. T., May 111.—Because
trustees will not serve without pay
from the government in the Little Riv-
er district in the Seminole nation,
their school will be taken away from
them.
The government established a
school in the district, built a school
house and employed a teacher at $45
a month. Yesterday Supervisor Fal-
well received word thnt the people
in the district refused to elect a
board of trustees to look after the
school work, because the people did
not propose to serve Uncle Sam for
nothing. It was intimated that if the
compensation could be agrred upon,
three men were willing to serve in
this capacity.
Want of a chance to graft is the
real reason attributed by Supervisor
Falwell. "School boards serve free
of charge in the city of Muskogee,
where the work is hard and requires
a great deal of time. The men who
serve are of the highest intelligence
and take a pride in their work. The
Little River district is the first in-
stance of this kind I have ever
known of," said the supervisor. "Other
districts are clamoring for schools and
we will close down the Little River
school and send the teacher to some
other district where the school will
be more appreciated."
To say that the supervisor was
shocked at the action of the people
of the district is putting it mildly
