While the mayoralty candidate, Mr
Frank Stearns, was walking down
Main Btreet Saturday at 7 p. m., In
company with Harry Mead, he was
attacked by a character known about
the city as "Button" Webb. "Button •
acted like a crazy man, and Stearns
evaded his blows by blocking them as
hest he could. A nearby policeman
was called and took "Button" to Jail
before any injury was done to Stearns
He was released from jail on a bond

Funeral of Fireman Overton.

who was killed In a wreck on the
Rock Island last week, was held Sun-
day at 2:30 p. m. from the family
residence on N. Chapman. Rev. Ful-
ton performed the rites and the body

State National bank.
One of the crowd, Mr. Oscar Morris
ad\ised Mr. Webb In a gentlemanly
way not to create any disturbance,
but to be a gentleman and go on
about his own affairs. Mr. Webb
then upon began a most violent abuse
of Mr. Morris, calling him all the
vile names he could think of. Mr
Webb was seen by several persons to
have an ugly looking knife In his hand
and to be Inviting trouble, and Mr
Morris was warned by bystanders to
look out, as Webb had been in a cut
