Business <Vlen, Organize!
I lie business men of Oklahoma
are organizing against the mail or-
der houses. One of the growing
evils of the small towns and cities
ill the west is the m ul order busi-
ness. In Oklahoma the mail order
houses hnve invaded the legitimate
territory of the loeal merchants and
they are fast driving them out of
business.
Buying from mail yrder houses is
line reading a dime novel. Peopln
; women mostly—do so because of
: the mystery and romance of getting
something from some "monster cor-
poration," that advertises its wares
in flaming posters, liKe the promises
of a spiritualistic seance or an orien-
tal hoiMtatonK.
Persons who buy goods by mai'
are on a par with persons who marry
through correspondence.
From small articles this mail
trade is climbing up and including
(all the necessities of life. And it
must be stopped, if the general
prosperity of all the people of the
towns and country is to be upheld.
We are already sending too great a
^ volume of money east in insurance
and other ways, and if we buy our
cannon necessities of mail order
houses there will be no need of 1
merchants nor town laborers to J
consume what the farme s produce j
Business men «re organizing all
over Oklahoma and petitioning the
postmaster general to rescind his j
his recent postal order that compels
the numbering consecutively of all
mail boxes 011 rural free delivery
routes, which is a step in the in
u-resc of catalogue houses and
against the general business interests
of the country.
A very affective way to counter-
act this growing evil, too, is for the
home merchants to advertise as ex-
tensively as do the ma'l order houses
for the home a ticle is alwa\s better
and in the long run cheaper to the
consumer.

E. B. Moore will open an addi
tion 10 Davenport for colored people
only. Lots will be sold cheap.
