The Davenport people, ho we are
told, have moved their drilling out
fit to a spot that has been pointed
out to them by a man who poses as
an oil well locator. According to
thin authority the possibility of
failure while working under his in
structions is absolutely excluded
We hope the man knows what he
is talking about. W e have seen
veins of water located by means of
a forked peach twig, but to this
day we consider the discovery as
purely accidental. I^or the life of
us we cannot comprehend the in-
fluence of the water upon the twig
or vice versa.—-Stroud Star. Ye!
verily! it has oft' been repeated:
"go away from home to learn the
news." The drilling outfit still
ays beside the railroad track, the
rill rojie has soaked up all the
horses, the derrick timber is not
quite all sawed, but if the weath-
er will only moderate, it will be only
a short time until the drill will
be pounding away.

Cheapest Postage.
The Straits Settlements has the cheap-
est post office in the world. Postcards
available in the colony and to the Fed-
erated Malay States are sold at one-
fifth of a penny each; the letter rate of
postage throughout the same area is
slightly over a halt-penny. The postage
on letters to any place (with very few
exceptions) in the British empire is t'our-
fuths of a penny to the half-ounce.
Delicious Kelish.
Chop the cold turkey rather fine; place
in. a saucepan with some of the gravy,
the juice of a lemon and a little of the
grated rind, a dash of allspice and pow-
dered mace, a tablespoonful of walnut or
mushroom catsup and a little celery salt.
Cook 15 minutes, spread upon buttered
toast cut in diamond shape and serve at
once.—Household.
Time to Begin.
Are you doing as much to brighten
this world as a single sunbeam does?
Are you scattering as much fragrance
in the lives about you as is shed by
one little violet? Do you refresh tired
hearts as a drop of rain refrpshes a
drooping plant? If not, it is time to
begin.—Detroit Free Press.
Saved.
Father—What did the teacher say
when she heard you swear?
Small Boy—She asked me where 1
learned it.
"What did you tell her?"
"1 didn't want to give you away, pa,
so I blamed it onto the parrot!"—De-
troit Free Press.
