Some Fine Rains.
A light sho ver fell here Sun
day night, followed on Monday
night by a heavy downpiur that
made the parched ground smile
with joy Tuesday morning
Wednesday night the llood gates
of the heavens were opened and
up to ti o'clock ibis morning
when W, W. Parks the govern
nient weather clerk took the
measurement the fall for the
<iight lacked but three tenths ol
being two inches of rain. The
total rainfall this w> ek up t >
6 a. in. to day is just three
inches, and rain continued to
fall during the day. The rain
seeius to have reached quite
a distance around Hennessey,
and was heavy enough to do lots
of good. Farmers can now e0
on with their seeding and main
who had about abandoned theii
intention of putting out wheal
will be able to plow and sow ti
good many acres yet It will in-
crease the cotton yield
maierially also.
I calf died, then a cow, followed by
the death of a mule, and then
one of their driving horses died
These animals gave indications
of rabies. The mule which died
bit a great piece out of the neck
of another mule, and the horse
rubbed the llesh off of his nose,
deal to the bone. Several other
head of stock are in danger.
Besides entailing a serious loss
on Mr. Felder in the death of his
live stock, they have been in con-
stant danger of themselves being
attacked and bitten by theso
animals. Fortunately noiie of
them have been bitten and now
that they are aware of the situa-
tion it is probable that they will
not be. What caused tlie dog to
go mad is not known.
Broke His Leg.
Some time this summer Wil-
liam liacer, who owns a half sec
lion of land 34 miles eastof town,
went to Oregon to spend the
summer and visit a brother.
Arriving at Baker City, Oregon,
he got off the train in the dark,
and sat down on a fence near
where he got off the train. In
stepping down lrom tin* fence he
fell a distance of several feet
upon a lot of jigged rocks
and broke one of his legs in
three places He was taken to
a hospital and has just recovered
sufficiently to get about on
crutches. He arrived in Hen
nessey the first of the Week.
