A Successful Trip.
Reference was made in these col-
umns two weeks ago to Mrs. Pris-
ciila Finley's visit to Oklahoma City
and Guthrie on a mission to create
an iuterest in the Boy Cashion Mon-
ument Fund. Her trip was quite
successful. She was invited to ad-
dress the teachers' association on
Dec. 31st, and succeeded in creating
a great deal of enthusiasm among
the teachers of the territory. The
association passed a yery Mattering
resolution, which we published last
week, to the memory of Roy V.
Cashion, and recommended that the
children be given an opportunity to
contribute. Mrs. Finley saw a num-
ber of the territorial officials, among
them Governor Barnes, Secretary
Jenkins and others. The governor
was much interested, and asked for
additional information about the
fund. The following donations and
subscriptions are reported bv Mrs.
Finley:

Snap.
Last Monday lieuuessey enjoyed a
visitfroin the soap fake man. He was
one of those gentlemanly, hail-fellow-
well-met sort of comrades you meet
sometimes on election day, und in
short order had a good siled crowd
at his heels, ready and eager to bite
as soon as he could explain how they
might go about it. When he did
choose to unfold his scheme—how
every man in the crowd might go
away with ten dollars in his pocket
to keep company with the poor, lone-
some one already there—the very ea-
gle on that dollar began to scream
and tiap his wings, while the God-
dess of Liberty on the other side
wept for joy and screwed the wreath
around on her head until it set
straight with the world: she was go-
ing to "entertain company, you
know;" she hadn't rubbed noses with
any other goddesses for so long that
she still retained on thut portion of
her physiognomy that same hunk of
"Buttle Ax" which she had contract-
ed in her few days association with
"the biggest piece iu the world for
ten cents."
Then the dollars began to crawl to
the mouth of the pocket., nod finally
out and into the buggy with the soap
man of the persuading voice. Then
the nice little chunk of soap, war-
ranted to take the blackness from
the heart of a railway corporation,
if you could find that organ, took
the place vacated by the dollar, and
the eagle and the goddess, and every
body was satisfied, or ought to have
been.
After some ten dollars had been
taken in, hardly enough to
pay the gentleman's "car fare and
hotel bill," the first lottery began.
The right tickets were there, but no
body could draw them. Then, un-
willing to let the "gentlemen who
had been so kind as to invest with
him" go home with empty pockets
(save the soau), a second batch of
soap and tickets were offered tor
sale at only one dollar each. And
again eagles screamed and again the
Goddess wept and again they both
crept out the pockets and into the
gentleman's buggy, nut the tick
cts wouldn't come right and the dol
lars never came bock. The Goddess
had made a mistake. She had gone
calling lustead of entertaining call-
ers.
About this time the city police de-
cided after much cogitation that
somebody was being robbed and
something had to be done instantly
if not a little previous, so the man of
the soapy mouth vas asked to sell
out a little below cost and call on
the police judge.
That was too bad, for he was just
going to give all the dollars, eagles,
etc., back and take that many more
out of his own pocket and give them
t > the owners of the soap packages;
but it couldn't be helped.
Receiving permission to put up
his team at the barn before calling
on the judge, he drove down to the
stable, secured a driver, and iii a
little over an hour was taking a
friendly glass in Waukomis, our su-
burb on the north.
He was arrested there that eve-
ning, brought to Hennessey, lodged
ut the hotel over night and his fare
paid back to Waukomis.
His license was good, his goods
had been sold and delivered and like
the Romans with Christ, no wrong
could be found in the man.

llis Life Was Saved.
Mr. J. E. Lilly, a prominent citi-

wonderful deliverance from afright-
ful death. In telling of it he says:

, that ran into l'neumonia. My lungs
became hardened. I was so weak I
couldn't even sit up in bed. Noth-
ing helped me. I expected to soon
die of Consumption, when I heard of
Dr. King's New Discovery. One bot-
tle gave great relief. 1 continued to
use it, and am now well and strong.
I can't say too much in its praise."
