United States Food Administration
Oklahoma City, May 22.—Sugar to
be used in home canning may be ob-
tained from retail atores upon appli-
cation and the filling out of a certifi-
cate that the eugar is desired for
home canning purposes, according to
new rules announced by the Oklahoma
food administration.
All merchants have been supplied
with blanks which the applicants fill
out and the sugar may be obtained at
the same time application is made. A
limit of 25 pounds to the person has
been placed on the amount of sugar
that may be obtained for/Canning
purposes. For instance a family of
five persons will be entitled to 125
pounds of sugar for the canning sea
son.
Oklahoma City, May 22.—One of
Herbert Hoover’s dollar a year men
has begun work for the Oklahoma
food administration. He is H. Josey,
formerly of San Antonio, Texas, who
will be in charge of the sugar divi-
sion of the state food administration.
Mr. Josey voluntered his services
to the government and being given
some choice as to where he should
work, decided upon Oklahoma, be-
ing a personal friend of C. B. Ames,
state food administrator. Mr. Josey
lived in Oklahoma 20 years before
going to Texas.

Lahman, of Tulsa, has been appoint-
ed assistant food administrator in
charge of the baker’s division ac-
cording to announcement of C. B.
Ames, state food administrator. He
succeeds H. C. Tyrell.
Oklahoma Colleges is being taken by
Mrs. C. L. Henley, of Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Henley recently was appoint-
ed State Secretary of College volun-
teer workers on the staff .of C. B.
Ames, state food administrator. She
expects to list and classify all of the
volunteer college women, particularly
those interested in Homs Economics.
The list of suggested services for
which Mrs. Henley will enroll volun-
teers includes assistants to local food
administrators; organisers of local
food clubs; assistants to demonstrat-
ors for local food clubs, clerical help
both for the food clubs and county
food administrators; lecturers, teach-
ers and publicists for the dipsemina
of tested receipts, particularly those
designed to save staple foods; library
assistants, organizers and miscella-
neous work.
The census will include the name of
the student, address, school exper-
ience, practical experience, course of
study, training or experience as pub-
lic speaker and worker, and amount
of time available for the work.
Mrs. Henley will start with a
handicap of a limietd time in which to
organize her work. She expects, how-
ever to be able to accomplish consid-
erable in time to make it of value dur-
ing the food production and preserv-
ing season of 1918.

HOSPITAL GARMENTS—Mrs. J.
G. Griffith, Supervisor. More work-
ers needed in Sewing room. We are
cutting the garments with the elec-
tric cutter and can supply everyone
with work. Our 'Auxiliaries and
Branches are doing fine work and lots
of it and we are proud of them. Head-
quarters has asked us to make large
shipments at a time and not ship so
often, so we are only going to ship
about twice a month unless we re-
ceive enough garments to justify us
shipping every week.
We have received orders from Head-
quarters not to give out any more
comfort kits to the boys leaving, but
they will be given after tbe boys
reach the camp.
Don’t forget the Auction every Sat-
urday, everyone come and bid.
RED CROSS NEWS.
Oklahoma City, May 22.—Oklahoma
bakers are t opolice their own indus-
try to see that wheat is conserved and
the regulations of the food adminis-
tration carried out.
The state is to be divided into dis-
tricts and the bakers in each district
will provide for the inspection of the
take shots in that territory. Okla-
homa City bakers already have em-
ployed an inspector who is checking
up on the amount of flour each bak-
er is using.
New regulations provide for week-
ly reports from each bakery. One
copy of this report will be filed with
the county food administrator and
kept on file at the bakery.
“No finer example of co-operation
is to be found than that which is
marking the relations of the bakeries
with the food administration,” said
C. B. Ames, state food administrator.
Oklahoma City, May 23.—A census
of volunteer workers for the Food
Administration from among fourteen
We have taken in the sum of $114.-
50 from the auctions during the last
month. The people in and near the
city have given us a great many nice
things to be auctioned off and on be-
half of the Red Cross Chapter wish
to thank them for same. These auc-
tions are held every Saturday after-
noon and anything you wish to con-
tribute will be greatly appreciated:
We need more workers in the Sew-
ing Room and Surgical Dressing
Room. Also have plenty o^ yam
for the knitters.
Anderson & Legate in the last four
weeks have donated us $16.30 which is
f.rertlv appreciated. ■
The Base Ball boys have donated us
$14.40 in the last two weeks, also Mr.
Geo. W. Wilson donated $2.00.
KNITTING DEPARTMENT—Mrs.
A. C. McClelland, Supervisor. The
people are taking great interest in
tho knitting *and are doing a great
deal of work. Week before last we
shipped 60 pair socks, 20 mufflers and
20 sweaters. We have on hand ready
to ship tomorrow 80 pair socks, 21
sweaters, 10 mufflers and 8 helmets.
