I he attendance at the county
normal held in McAlester has
reached 132, and more teachers
expected to enroll. This is by far
the most successful normal and
the largest number of teachers in
attendance ever heretofore held
in Pittsburg county.
Oscar Colbert and Alex Pol-
lock, who put on the roping con
test at the picnic, are talking of
getting up a big cattle men’s
picnic here, in the near future.
Such an undertaking would be a
big thing and ought to prove a
conspicuous success.

The McAlester Retailers’
associaton elected the following
officers for the ensuing year:
J. B McAlester. president.
George McHhney vice president
Miss Garrie Thomas secretary;
Herman Levin, treasurer.
The hay baling season has
opened, and a number of outfits
are now at work in the country,
surrounding Pittsburg. This in
dustry isquitea revenue produc-

many- at a time when other em-
ployment might not be obtain
able.
McAlester will send a large
represantation to Tulsa this
week to attend the state golf
tournament, which comes off the
13th. 14th, and 15th. Among
those going will be Tom Hale,
Frank Craig Melven Cornish,
Paul Jones, and Ben VVeimer.
The tournament was to have
been held here this year but the
field has been in poor shape on
acount of the grass dying during
tile winter. The tournament for
next year will in all likelihood
come to McAlester.

Candidates do not seem to be
quite so much inclined toadver
tiseinthe papers as they usually
are though we do not complain
at the share of such patronage
this paper has received. It is
possible that candidates as well
as others are feeling the effects
of hard times.

WHY NOT ECONOMIZE ?
On your grocery bill, as well as on other things ? There
is no reason except the cash reason. If you are a cash
buyer yoi ought to trade at a cash store. If you are not a
cash buytr you should start now. We have no losses on
bad accounts; consequently, we do not have to make you
pay some other man’s bills. It you trade with us we will
“save youpomething on everything.” Compare prices.
