Reports from throughout the farm-
ing section all show that we are try-
ing to make the greatest crop on j
record. Labor shortage is felt, but;
we also must remember that the de-
mand is also greater even had we!
the same- amount of labor as before.!
It has been estimated that not less
than a million idle hands were still
in the country, not from necessity,
but from choice. We have a tramp
class, a hobo class and a class of jiab-
itual shirkers. If all these were
pressed into service there would be
very little shortage. The government
will soon require a general registry,
it is said. Through this will be work-
ed out a plan to put all to work. In
the meantime, we have our state laws
against vagrancy that could be en-
forced now. We must work and
fight as a nation.—Little River News.
Owing to press of work and the
fact that Miss Steele, who was cir-
culation manager of the Gazette, re-
signing her position on account of
illness and death in her home at Den-
ison, Texas, we have been unable to
discontinue subscriptions when the'
time expire'", but beginning week
the list will be revised. If you are be-
hind on subscription pie ;e call and
pay up before we get to the list. Its
not our desire to discontinue your pa-
per, but the postal laws make it man-
datory and we must comply. Read
and take warning for if your time is
out it will go off the list.
Prof. L. N. Gray, of this city, will
likely be a candidate for State Sen-
ator from this District. He is one of
the ablest men in the state and would
give honor to the District.
The political pot is going to begin
to boil as soon as this Liberty Bond
drive is over. The business people
are too busy now to talk politics.
In our rush at the Liberty Bond of-
fice if we should fail to get your ]
name in the published list don’t get
mad, its just an oversight.
Certainly McCurtain County is go-1
ing to reach her quota, but we want
to do even better than that by going 1
over *75,000,00.
The Gazette wants to say we think
Idabel has some of the best lady
workers in the world. They never
tire.
Several people have been killed this)
week by cyclones in different states!
adjoining our own state.

CONDEMNS THE DOGS.
To Editor Gazette.
Glover, Okla., April 18.—I have
been studing the food saving plan
for some time and I find one way to
save food would be for the state to
pass a law forcing a person to pay
*25.00 per year tax on every dog he
or she owned, and not allow but one
dog to the household. Thefre is an
average of three dogs to the house-
hold in this district. At the last
election there was polled here 137
votes, with three dogs to the house-
hold, this would make 411 dogs. Ev-
ery household can raise two hogs on
what they feed three dogs, which
would make 250 hogs raised and at a
year old they will weigh on an
average 150 pounds, at the present
mark’et price will bring *25.50 each
making a total of $4,325.00. This
would be saved from scraps fed to
the dogs. This is not the only sav-
ing, the sheep, pigs and eggs they
devour during the year ie quite an
item.
