CAM RUSSELL WILL GET $60,000 FOR HIMSELF IF SEC
TION 12 A IS VITALIZED
Vote “Yes" for the Repeal and Save the Schoolhouse
Do you want yor child to have the benefits oi five or seven
months school?
Do you want the splendid school system of Oklahoma given a
setback that will require jeara to overcome?
Do >ou want Campbell Russell paid $OU,0U0 for wrecking this
system f
Do you want to dig down in your pocket to pay your share
oi this $oU,UUU in order tuat your child may have only five months
school a year instead of the seven or eight months to which he is
entitled ?
these in brief are the tilings that will come to pass if Senator
Campbell Russell s bill to v italize section 12*A becomes a law at
the state primary in August.
If the bill to repeal section 12-A becomes a law Oklahoma will
march on towards the high pinnacle ot school progress to which
she is entitled.
Section 12-A provides for the distribution of public service
company school taxes pro rata according to the school population
all over the state, regardless oi where the taxes are paid. It needs
a new law to put it into eilect, and this is the law Campbell Russell
is now initialing, f or his services he will be paid $ou,UUU out oi
the total tax paid, and his payment is provided lor in one ol the
clauses of tile bill he is initialing.
A hat fact alone w ill be sufncient to defeat the bill if the voters
can be made to understand what it means. It he is successful only
a very small part ol the school districts of the state will be bene-
fited, and these m most instances will be the larger districts which
have the most school population, ihe small struggling districts
will be bankrupted entirely and the little “red selioohiouse'’ will
become a thing oi the past m all parts of the state. Vote "yes” on
the repeal and vote "no" on the Russell bill and keep the $0(J,OOU
which Russell is after.
AN AMaZING INVENTION
Ihe United States government is preparing to spend over
$1,000,000 as an initial investment in the most amazing weapon of
warlare produced in modern times, and it is preparing to own that
weapon exclusively and keep its secret guarded from the world.
ihe fortifications bill introduced in the house by Represen-
tatives Sherley oi Kentucky carries an appropriation of $l,lt>7,00U
for the purchase of fall rignts and patents covering the Hammond
destroyer, including a sum for the manufacture of a certain number
of these weapons and experimentation with them.
John Hays Hammond, Jr. the inventor, will assign all patents
in the United States for the sum of $2oU,OUO, plus 1U per cent for
installing each radio station whether ashore or afloat, plus $10,000
royalty lor each destroyer built, ibis is based on an order oi not
less than three units, a unit consisting of one station and ten des-
troyers. If the government builds only two units, the lump sum is
to be $630,000. if it builds only one unit, the lump sum is to be
$730,000. In addition Mr. Hammond will give his time and service
to the government in installing and developing the system so long
as the war department wants him.
These are some of the things it will do:
Its engine may be started, stopped and controlled at various
speeds by wireless.
The surface type can travel fifty miles an hour.
It can carry a ton of high explosives.
It is more accurate in the opinion of army experts than the fire
of big guns.
It may be operated and sent against an enemy by a single man,
who remains ashore, or on a warship, or in an aeroplane and whose
sole instruments are a telescope and an electric key.
It cannot be interfered with by adverse wireless waves, be-
cause it is controlled by a system of selective transmission.
If the wave length controlling it is discovered by an enemy
that wave length can be changed while the torpedo is in flight.
If—and as this is the most amazing of all—an enemy attempts
to interfere with it by wireless, it possesses the uncanny faculty of
pointing immediately in the direction of that enemy and making
directly for him. &
It carries a search light of its own which may be turned on
and off by wireless.
The surface type will cost about $47,500 each.
The torpedo type will cost about $9,000 each.
The surface type has a cruising radius of 200 miles, at 50 miles
an hour.
It may be guided 200 miles to sea by an aeroplane and launch-
ed against an enemy at the end of the run.
The surface type has a capacity of double attack. It carries a
torpedo, which when the destroyer is in striking distance, can be
launched by wireless. If the torpedo strikes, the destroyer can be
turned around by wireless and sent home. If the torpedo misses
the destroyer whith carries an additional half-ton of explosives’
can be sent on to retrieve the error.—Brooklyn Eagle.
