Kaohas City Star. *'Tbe New
York Herald devotes five col-
umns to an expose of what is called
■ an "Oklahoma divorce fraud," but the
t fraud seems to have consisted in the
I forgery of a decree of divorce and the
I theft of the seal of the court by an
1 Oklahoma lawyer, a crime which
might have been committed in any
other territory or state in the union,
and might as well have been com-
mitted by any other person as an Ok-
lahoma lawyer, provided the trans-
gressor was anxious for S'l'i" to the ex-
tent of risking a term in the peniten-
tiary to obtain it. It does not seem to
■ have been so much a question of the
Oklahoma statutesor their administra-
tion as of a rascally attorney willing
to commit any offense for $3"i0. The
matter of the reformation of the di-
vorce laws in Oklahoma and other ter-
ritories comes under another head.
The lawyer who forged the judge's
and clerk's signatures and who stole
the seal should, of course, be sent to
the penitentiary, and then the bracing
up of the divorce law should be left to
the people of the territory, where it
belongs."
The article is probably all fiction,
and simply written for an advertise-
ment. It is injurious to the territory
in that it does not state that the law
has been repealed and is not nowoper
alive. A good tnany people, especially
in Oklahoma City, think .ludge Scott,
whom the article refers to as the able
jurist interviewed, wrote the story
himself, and that he did it to revenge
himself on a territory t hat he con-
siders has wronged him.
An important DHlerenee.
To make it apparent to thousands,
who think themselves ill, that they
are uot afflicted with any disease, but
that the system simply needs cleans-
ing. is to bring comfort home to their
hearts, as a costive condition is easily
cured by usino- Syrup of F«ffs. Manu-
factured by the California Fiff Syrup
company only and sold by all drug-
gists.

Attorney John Seothom I nearths a New
l\Iade Grave.
As Attorney .lohn Scothorn came in
from his farm north of the city yester
day morning he found a new made
grave in the open country outside the
city line. It looked like the grave of
an infant by its size. Tender hands
had planted chrysanthemums and
other flowers around it. All the stor-
ies of mysterious babies born out of
wedlock surged to Scothorn's brain;
and he hurried back to his house and
geUing a spade came back and began
to unearth the mystery. lie dug far
enough down into the grave until his
spade struck the body, which he could
tell by the springy sensation, when ha ,
let the spade drop and rushed down
town to hunt the police. He told them
he had undoubtedly unearthed a mur-
der. Some poor woman had buried
her child there. Her mother's heart
overcoming her crime, she had planted
the flowers around the little one's
grave.
The officers went out to the place
and dug up the body. It was nicely
sowed up in a sack. The sack was
ripped open, and, sure enough, there
was a litt c dead—dog.
The tire department had run over
Rev. Huckner's dog and the children,
loving him bo much, had waited until
evening and given him that decent
burial.

The closing day of tin week's auction sales
only moderately we.I attended There
were plentv of buyers, but not so m inv soec.i-

ceipts of livo stock to-day There was . steady
feeling on all good offerings, but the bulk of
the receipts were rather coin non an 1 buyers
were not disposed to take them so freely. Bids
indicated a weaker feeling on this kind. Mules
are coming in moder ito nu nbers and no
