It means now that the Oklahoma bill

l'he most disgraceful occurrence
ever put upon the populist party in
Oklahoma Territory was that enacted
at Mulhall on Monday last. The
editor ■ f the Last Hope ok tuf. Re-
PI'HI.k; was present and witnessed the
whole performance. We got in on the
10 o'clock special train and the first
thing we noticed was Virgil M. Hobbs.
chairman of the fusion gang com-
mittee, Leo Vincent and the llev. Ca.-
lahan in secret consultation. They
were sneaking around behind doors
and acting in a most cowardly fashion.
They dictated a letter to Chairman
Grimes, of the republican committee,
making the fatal declaration that
' free homes is not an issue in Oklaho-
ma Territory 1" and declaring that Mr.
Callahan would discuss nothing but
the silver question. Was this not a
deliberate purpose to put the Rev. Cal-
I lahan into the most embarassing posi-
I ition possible and ruin all his chances
j in this canvass? And why did Calla-
| han agree to this? Was this not part
j of the original deal concocted by the
democrats of this territory to use Cal-
lahan as simply a tool—a stool pigeon
— giving the democrats entire control
of the popocratic committee and all
the pie. should Bryan be elected! And
how did Callahan come to voluntarily
fall into this hole? Is he a fool—or a
child?
The Last Hope of the Republic,
The Shawnee Chief, a democratic
paper edited by C. T. Bushfleld, has
taken Callahan's name off its masthead
and is out for Flynn in the following
strong manner:
TOES TO THE DAISIES.
After Hearing the Rev. Callahan and
His Batch of Vulgar Jokes Many
Democratic Voters Gasp for lireath
and their Toes Turned to the Dais-
ies.
Rev. Callahan, the man who has
been bolstered up, petted and idolized
by the democratic party, came to town
last night. liver since the democrats
picked him up out of the ranks and
boosted him into prominence we have
heard a great deal of him and, like
many other democrats, we took a
"friendly likin'" to the fellow. We
hoisted his name at the head of our
columns and in our weak way threw
I in a chunk for him every day or two.
I As stated before, he came to town
| last night and was met at the depot by
I a delegation of the democrats and pops
and was driven up town. At the cor-
ner of Main and Bell was a platform
and upon this was Rev. Callahan perch-
ed. Judge Cassidy, one of the long-
eared pops introduced Col. Lowe, who
made a short talk. Mr. Cassidy then
the only straight populist paper in Ok- j
lahoma, sounds the warning now and
sounds it loud, and that is, that Virgil j introduced Rev. Callahan. Mr. Calla-
M. Hobbs, Leo. Vincent, and the few
democratic and populist tricksters who
helped make a fiasco out of the Mul-
hall meeting, have a private agree-
ment to vote for republicans and not.
