Scarr has been editing the Enterprise
at Mulhall for two years as a demo-
cratic paper The intellect of this
collossus has been expended on weekly
screeds against the republican parly
for two years past. Ninety days ago
he concluded he was a republican. He
ame out for county superintendent in
Logan county on the republican ticket.
Immediately republicans told him that
it was foolish for u man who hac been
running a democratic paper two years
to attempt to make the republicans
believe that he was worthy of the
nomination upon the republican
ticket He declaircd he had only been
a democrat by force of the Guthrie
laud office, in order to hold for his
paper the land otlice publications; but
that he did not love land pubs any
more and was going to at once turn
his paper back into the republican col-
umn He soou discovered that the re-
publicans did not propose to nominate
a democrat on the republican ticket
In the meantime, the laud otlice noti
tied him that, it being understood that
his paper was soou to change to re-
publicanism, that it deemed it best to
notify him that a genuine democratic
paper would be started at Mulhall and
that on and after a certain date, unless
he kept his paper squarely iu the
lemoeratic column, no inorc laud
| partis, would be sent to him.
The facility with which Scarr
squared himself with the laud office is
evident on the face of the situation.
He not only kept his paper iu the
straight democratic path, but he
deemed it necessary to make open con-
fession of his sin, and hence the decla-
ration in his Guthrie speech against
the republican party His hand was
in, since he hu I been writing two
