Hon. D. A. Harv \ has a sensible
article in the Press-Record favoring
free coinage of silver. He wants to
see more money of the sound kind—
gold, silver and paper.
Thk Press-Record, Mrs. Rock's pa-
per, has discovered that there is one
"single gold standard" man in Okla
homa. Depend on a woman every
time to develop a secret.
Ix-Cintv Justicb Hobto* has
started for the l'nited States seuate
from Kansas. He has joined a repub
lican club and will appear in a politi
cal meeting in Topeka this week.
Crime, poverty, drought, turbulance
commercial and political, engulph the
land: and no relief until after March
4th. 1897. The penalties following a
democratic administration are eqaal
to hell itself.
Ei> Ingle, of the Norman Transcript
will hereafter conduct as "Oklahomi

paper World, the organ of the craft

is vigorous and entertaining
Thk earth for a thousand years has
been gradually growing dryer. Soon
it will begin to crack and get in
condition to fulfill the biblical declara
tion that the earth shall be consumed
by fire. Get ready for the heat.
Thk reason for Hoke Smith's delay
of the Kickapoo and Wu hita openings
is perhaps because it has been taking
all his spare time to make the S40.000
fee looking after the sale of the (ieor
gia. Southern and Florida railroad.
Old*r^iuuirib "temperanoe meet-
ings" are breaking out in Kansas.
They are held to declare that, after
ten years' trial, prohibition does not
prohibit. Mr Keeley and the bl
ribbon are the surest temperance
workers.
Political prejudice cannot stop at
the grave: it follows the living rela
tires, as evidenced by the assault on
the aged mother of the Irish patriot,
Parnell, the other day. The whelps
who did this job should have earth
made intolerable for them.
The "Lift- ' Sain iel Tilden," by
John Higelow. is coming out. It
comes at this lime, perhaps, to show
the humiliating contrast between a
great democrat and an honest man,
and (Jrover Cleveland, the bond-dick-
erer and financia' juggler
The judge's friends in Oklahoma
will allow for the enthusiasm of his
bride and will not let this ante-an-
nouncement count against him. They
will tremble over the interview be-
tween Havens and his enthusiastic
wife when he learns that her exuber-
ance was caught up by the wires and
sent to Oklahoma.
Judge Havens, here in Oklahoma
has lived a quiet life, giving no indi
cations of his ambitions, and therefore
avoiding the envy of the :>o0 other
fellows hell bent for the United States
senate; but he confided the secret of
his heart to a woman, the thing is out.
and now not only the shafts of the
herd of would-be senators, but even
McKinley, Reed and the would-be
presidents will be after him, since thifr '
bold declaration of rivalry.
Howeyer, the judge may have no
fears about any deleterious effects in
Oklahoma; his friends here will parry
all local shots, if he can ward off the
envious darts of the fellows on the
outside who object to their presiden-
tial ambitions being interferred with.
All his Oklahoma friends will swear
that Havens would make a much bet-
ter senator than Dave Hill and a dura
sight better president than Cleveland.

Thk papers smile at Thk State Cap-
ital's suggestion that the Lord kill
the devil. The thought seems to be
that our heavenly relation is not such
to make our suggestion likely to get
consideration. Our idea was to save
the preachers some trouble. They
are pounding away at the devil daily
and hourly and he seems not only to
remain unhurt, but he actually laughs
at the preachers and goes on raking
i victims. No one can doubt the
ord's power to kill satan off at one
fell swoop and thus settle this eternal
row between good and evil. The war
of extermination is too slow as it is
now going on. If some preacher in
Guthrie who has tlie brains to do it
right will announce a sermon on ledgers, cash
"Why Don't God Kill the Devil?" this
paper will see that he has a big crowd
to hear his reason why. This is an
old question, but somebody ought to
be able to solve it.
