Tue.duy passed the compromise For-
aker vejolutiOH authorizing the com-
mittee on military affairs to investi-
gate the farts of the affray at Browns-
ville, on the nights of August lo and
14, last, without questioning 'he legal-
ity or justice of any act of the pres-
ident in relation or in connection with
that affray." The action came after
the subjvet hftd been under considera-
tion almost daily since the lirst day
of the present session of congress
and every phase of the question had
teen discussed on all sides.
Senate Accepts More Pay.
Washington, 1). ('• — The senate
Wednesday accepted the proposition
of the house of representatives to
increase the salaries of senators, mem-
bers and territorial delegates to $7.-
500 annually and those of the vice pres-
ident, the speaker of the hot^s and
members of the president's cabinet to
$12,000. This action was taken by a
vote of 63 to 21, and followed a discus-
sion of nearly three hours. An amend-
ment confining the increases to cabinet
officers and the presiding officers
of the senate and house was voted
down as was also a proposition to
postpone the increa&i- until 1913.

Washington. D. C. — The house
committee on ways and means decided

designed to enable small manufactur-
ers to en^a^e in making denatured
alcohol, it provides for the locked
si ill and tank system in plants not
making more than 100 gallons a day
and also provides that denatured al-
cohol is to be exempted from internal
revenue tax used in chloroform, ether
or other substances where the alcohol
is chemically changed

half ounce of the Virgin Oil of Pine

tion can be found at any good drug
store, but care should be taken that
only the pure Virgin Oil of Pine
should be used. This is put up only
in half-ounce vials for dispensing, se-
curely sealed in a round wooden case
with engraved wrapivr, having the
name—Virgin Oil of Pine (Pure), pre-
pared only by Leach Chemical Co.,
'•Incinnati, O.—plainly printed there-
on.
The cheaper oils and those sold in
bulk only create nausea and have
no effect whatever upon the bronchial
tubes.

close the post office for one day, as I
am going on a bear hunt. I am not
asking your permission to close up
and you can discharge me if you want
to. Hut I will advise you now that I
am the only man in the county who
