New York, .lune —An investiga-
tion has been ordered by the authori-
ties of Washington of an alleged gold
mining concern with offices in this
city. For three months past, it is said,
the concern has been advertising freely
in all the foreign newspapers. One of
the advertisements, translated from a
Greek paper published here, reads:
"Have you five dollars? Do yo% wish
to make them ton within a month, one
hundred within a year and one thou-
sand within a short time?"
The board of managers named in the
advertisement is composed of men as-
serted to be tilling high public posi-
tions. such as "senator of the state of
Ohio," 'Vomptrollei of the I nited
States treasury," "treasurer of
1' nited States.*' There also appears
the name of a member asserted to have
been "formerly secretary of the treas-
ury."
None of the names given, however,
iskfiown at all in public life in this
country.
It is alleged that the company has
disposed of considerable stock to for-
eigners and the affair will be thorough-
ly inve? tigated by agents of the treas-
ury department.
The man whose name appears as
president of the mining company de-
clares that the advertisements arc
"brimful of typographical errors," and
that, the person named as "comptroller
of the treasury," is in reality a New

■ The Snake river plains (Idaho) are
a veritable museum of nature's won-

magnificent waterfalls, and a wonder-

Cat Nursing Rabbits.
A nest of young rabbits was plowed

them home, but after getting tired of
her pets she decided to feed them to

A Woman's Back.
Dublin. Mich., June 2!>th. To the
many women who suffer with weak
hack and pains ami tired feelings in
the small of the back, the experience
of Mrs. Fred Chalker ot this place
will be interesting and profitable.
Mrs. Chalker had suffered a very
great deal with these back pains and
although she had tried many things,
she could find nothing mat would re-
lieve her. The pain kept on in spite
of all she could do.
At last she chanced to read the
story of another lad> who had suf-
fered with the backache, and said she
had been cured by a remedy called
Dodd's Kidney Pills, and Mrs. Chalker
thought she would try th same tning.
After the first two boxes had been
taken according to directions, she be
gan to feel some better, and she kept
on till at last she was cured.
Her pains are all gone, and she is
very grateful. She says: "Dodd s
Kidney Pills helped me greatly, and
I will always recommend them as a
cure for Pain in the Back."
