FOUR BIG OIL
TRUSTS TO
BE MADE
N^w York, May 17.—That out of the
Standard oil company, (branded aa a
monopoly by the UnDted Startes su-
preme court and ordered to dissolve
witfliln glx months may grow four new
trusts, became known today wlhen It
was learned that euoli a plan Is un-
dw consideration by the board of
directions.
Though the company win reorganise
the business along lines wtolcfo will not
conflict with tlhe Sherman anti-trust
law as construed by the court, thene
four separate organisation*, If the di-
rectors accept Che plans outlined to
tihem, will have ae arbitrary power as
that exercised by the original organi-
zation. The plan 1« for the parent con-
cern to combine Ite company Into four
powerful organizations — producing,
manufacturing, transportation and
selling companies
Msrtti Rosenthal, srtho wltih John Q.
Milburn, conducted the Standard's de-
fence until the government's suit
reached the supreme court satd today
that this plan of four organizations
could readily be adopted by the com-
pany. Rosenthal Is now a mem her of
a Rrosd Street banking firm.
"I see no reason w h> the law Should
not be sfcrt-lafled by the breaking up
of the present company into four parts
as suggested," he said. "The court
has finally given us a clear and de-
cisive Interrelation of both sections 1
and 2 of the Sherman ant and It Is an
Interpretation which, aside from Its
specific on Standard Oil ln4ere«sta, will
'be gratifying to tihe business iom-
munlty. It seems to me that the court
has Interpreted ti he act to be substan-
tially wtoat the common law of Eng-
land wes. and has therefore to that
extent ccme around to the dissenting
opinion of Justice Holmes in the Nor-
thern security case, and also to some
