"He will always be n slave who doesn't

and save the rest."
This is true, no matter what a man's income
is. There are many slaves who have large sal-
aries. It is the ratio between receipts and ex-
penditures, which counts and he who makes a
serious business of saving will always be inde-
pendent. Have a savings account in the Night

the day of legalized prize fight In this
I country is drawing to a close.
I The efforts of the church people of
(California backed up as they are by
i the sentiment of the church men of
1 the whole country will not stop the
I fight scheduled in San Francisco on
i Independence Day. but is Is merely
a mattei' of time when an aroused pub-
lic opinion will compel the authori-
ties to put a stop to these palpable
evasions of the laws against prize-
fighting or compel the law making
bodies to enact such drastic measures
as will prohibit even harmless sport.
That the proposed San Francisco
meeting Is a prize fight pure and sim-
ple cannot be disputed, even those
j who In order to evade the plain let-
I t"i- of the law call it a boxing con-
test, smile cynically when tliey do so.
It would be better for the commu-

were removed for such violations
simply breed contempt for the law
in other ways. There is another al-
ternative however, the strengthening
of the law to prohibit all "boxing
contests." Jt iloes not take much
of a prophet to foretell which alterna-
tive the people of an American state
will take.

NUMERICAL INDEX
TELEPHONE DIRECTORY
The arrniifrinf; of a NUMERICAL IN'DEX in tha
telephone directory lias been discontinued by the com-
pany for some time past, as it has been in nearly all
cities of the country.
Information such as would be Riven by the addition
of a NUMERICAL INDEX to the directory can be gained
in other ways that are more satisfactory.
If a call is received for a person who is absent and
you are requested to have him call a number, say 45l>2,
ask for the name of the party calling. If you obtain only
the telephone number, it may happen that some one will
answer at that telephone who will be ignorant of the call
made by the other person. This happens frequently
where several in an office use the same telephone.
In mnking requests for people to call you, state your
NAME as well as your telephono number.
If, through an oversight 110 name has been left when
you are given a notice to call a certain number, the
easiest way is to call the number as requested, but if it is
necessary, call INFORMATION and ask the name of the
subscriber.

to Her Maid:
"You have no idea, Jennie, what a
snap it is to do the ironing with an
electrical flatiron. It's twice as easy
and twice as quick as using the old
fashioned stove irons. You need no
fire, never have to change your iron,
save all the footsteps between
board and stove, and there is no
soot whatever to soil the clothes.
We have the General Electric flatiron
for users of eleetric light to connect to
lamp sockets already in the house.
