MUST BE ENFORCED, SAYS
BURWELL!
After fining A. L. Summers $100 and
costs for conducting the Turf saloon
upon C. L. Nixon's license, Judge Bur-
well made the following statement in
open court today:
"From this on we will enforce these
laws strictly. If there are any other
saloons running here under such cir-
cumstances they must be closed im-
mediately. I want the sheriff to find
out and if so, commence proceedings
at once.
"With reference to the saloon men
who have just plead guilty 1 wish to
suggest that as long as men engaged
in this line of business obey the law
they will be protected in this court,
but will further state that no matter
what the policy has been before, here-
after you must obey the law. The
public is entitled to protection and
the fellow who persists, his license
will be cancelled.
"There is no reason for a man
saying that he keeps open because
another man does and any saloon man
reporting same to the officers, the
man will be taken care of. No one
can interefere with your business
more than they can a church or a
bank if you obey the law.
"I say this without hesitancy."
