COAL AND GAS.
The We n o n a Co a 1
Company
REPERESENTING $250,000 00.
Soon to begin work. The
Location and Grounds Ob-
tained .
For some tiino, perhaps three or four
weeks the Times has been familiar with
the fact that there would soon lie devel-
opments lor publication that would lie
of vast importance. We are now cred-
ibly informed that the Wenona Coal
Company has empoyed Mr. Einil Hold
en, a french mining engineer to com-
mence boring at once. Mr. Sherwood
of this city is president of the Wenona
Coal Company and his son in-law, whose
name now escapes our memory is vice
president and superintendent. This
company represents immense wealth,
which will he lavishly expended in de-
veloping the mines at this place. Vr.
llolden is a minning engineer and as
sayist of many years practical expe-
rience ill minning districts in Kansas,
Colorado and Kentucky, lie has no
hesitancy in affirming that coal in rich
quantities will be obtained at a distance
of from two to three hundred feet be
low the surface, hut in less quantities
much nearer the surface. Oas has not
been the remotest from the thoughts of
the prospectors and it may be- ere long
the Timks printing machinery will be
run by gns instead of bringing into play
the Armstrong Motor. All eyes are ex-
pectantly turned toward our coal inter-
ests. Itis iwt looked upon as a matter
of doubt hut as a positive certainty, for
miners insist that coal can he reached
at no verv great depth, and in well pay
lng Humilities.
OUR COMMITTEE AT GUTHRIE.
Our people owe to the good people
of Guthrie a debt of gratitude for the
"right royal" manner in which our
representatives were received and en
tertained when there on the mission
of oo operation us referred to in an
other column of this issue. The re
rescntptives of Guthrie "fell in" witl
the worthy theme upon its fair and
frank presentation by our worthy com
mittee. A committee of Guthrie'
formost enterprising gentlemen was at
once appointed to confer with our
men. The conference made its
port and their wishes became the will
of tlio body as a whole. Oklaliom
City was courteously named by Gutli
rie Comuiittemen as the place
holding a deligate Convention, and
the 10th of November, or as near that
date as practical, was determined up-
on as the time for holding the con-
vention. Every City, Town and com-
munity in the Territory is to be no-
tified and requested to send delegates,
but oities having one thousand and
over shall be entitled to one delegate
for each thousand population. Ever)
community is to have a representa-
tion. Everything from beginning to
the end was perfectly harmonious and
a most fraternal fueling prevailed
throughout. Every courtesy was
shown our esteemed Committeemen.
At a late hour the meeting ad
journed. During the entire stay at
Guthrie every thing very clearly
pointed to a hasty cementing of a
warm feeling of filial regards, and a
speed v healing of any differences of
distrust, either real or imaginary that
may have formerly exhisted.
THE COFFIN EDITOR
Again to the Frontand
Maliciously Falsi-
fies the Peoples'
Representatives.
The Gazette Perfectly at Homo
It is seldom that the state of per-
fection ever attains. But the Ga
zette editor is certainly an exception.
For downright, pure and unadultcrat-
d cusscdness the state of perfection
as unmistakably been reached by
that individual. Not content with
is Judias Iscarrot act; not content
with trying to conceal the wholesale
robbery by city officials; not content
ith defence of wholesale franchise
steal, not content with the shameless
isgrace heaped upen our fair city by
is own beastly drunkenness before
the congressional delegation; not eon
tent with the ready support given to
the high (?) official who side by side
with his holy (?) sanctum, he not on
ly permits, but it is alleged, actually
receives with his own hands the wages
of prostitution as compensation
oorns used for dissolute purposes. lie
now comes fanticly to tlio front and
would throw the cloak of deception,
distrust and suspicion oyer three of
our most upright, honest and straight
forward citizens. These gentlemen
lire Judge Adams, Att'y \V. W. Wit-
ten and Col. Wilkinson, all gentlemen
of high social, moral, political and fi-
nancial standing and men of whom
any community may justly feel a
righteous pride. These gentlemen
ouiposed a committee, chosen by the
committee of fifty" to represent
Oklahoma City in waiting upon our
sister city on the north and solicit her
co-operation in devising the best
means of representing the interests of
territory of Oklahoma in congress
about to assemble. These gentlemen
are accused of being "deceivers,"
"clandestine schemers," politicians
thirsty for distinction," &e., &c., all
of which are as far from being true as
the "coffin editor's" denial of his Tex-
as "drunk and disorderly" record
On the contrary, these gentlemen at
the request of the citizens of Oklalio
ma City and backed by, as is firmly
believed, four-fifths of the people of
our city, went to Guthrie, performed
their duty manfully and most success-
full. They went, not as a self-consti-
tuted committee for self-aggran-
dizement or from personal motives,
but as a committee sent by the people
having a definite, specific duty to per-
form. They undertook and perform-
ed the task imposed. They secured
the hearty co-operation of the repre-
sentative, substantial citizens of Guth-
rie. They commanded the utmost re-
spect. They represented a worthy
people, in worthy cause, in a worthy
manner and reflected great credit up-
on themselves and their constituents,
the majority of Oklahoma City's en-
terprising citizens—the statements of
the Gazette to the contrary notwith-
standing. The good people of our
city felt greatly enraged at first the
reading of the libelous statements, but
upon mature reflection concluded to
do as the Irishman did when the don-
key kicked him.
DI.S lit US T WIDENED.— HA Hi
The futile attempt of the Gazette's
faber pusher, by cowardly insinua-
tion, to show that Col. Wilkerson and
otlieri were lending their personal in-
fluence to "widen the distrust" be-
tween our city and Guthrie, is the
most shallow nonsense and wholly un-
worthy a moments reflection, and
would find uttrrcncc in no place on
earth, except from the escape valve of
some cesspool of moral degradation.

THE PROPOSED CONVENTION.
In thjs Issue is a report addressed to
our people, by tlio persons moving to
bring about the meeting of the con-
vention named. This report was
ordered by a very full meeting held
last niglu.
Its object as discussed last night, are
to procure such legislation touching
town lots, as may provide for a method
of speedily anil legally adjusting all
disputes over the right to hold lots, and
to speedily deed them to the bonified
legal claimants to them. The taker
being an actual resident of or doing
business In tlie town where tlio lots
taken may be located, and to prevent
tliem from being deeded to nonresident
or illegal holders, or to speculators.
The justice and wisdom of this move
commands its self to every thinking
man. It will build up the towns by
giving the lots to our own people for
homes and business, or Improvement
by them. Let the good work go on. Terl-
tarial natters will also bo seriously
considered and duly weighed.
