terior department has decided to take
care of the cattlemen. It was an-
nounced today that the rattle from
the Kiowa conntrjr and Wichita reser-
vation would be taken to a tract of
pasture land about (00000 acres
and located on Ute Texas border. Thv
secretary of the Interior fee'ded that
this would be the best way out of the
difficulty tin under such tin arrange
meat there could not be any hardship
to the cattlemen. The Interior depart-
ment hod received letters from Okla-
homa statins that some of the cattle-
men have greatly exaggerated the
number of cattle they hold and
while some have claimed that they ! urran
asm thousnudB or head in reniy tney
do not own more than a few hundred
head. It la also stated that some of
the cattlemen within the last week
hnve brought a large number of cattle
Into the Kiowa country from Texas.
Those reports will be Investigated

ed down several Important decisions
late Saturday evening. The court up-
held tits law of 1899 which provides
that only court and territorial taxes
shall be levied In Indian reservations
attached to counties tor Judicial pur
poses. There Is much valuable tax-

these reservations. The treasurer of
Noble county sought to collect all
taxes and was opposed by the cattle-
men who were defeated In the dis-
trict court of Noble county from
which the case was appealed to the

spinster living in Guthrie built a high
"spite" fence betweeu her property
and that of Horace Speed United
States district attorney. The result
was that Speed was almost suffocated
In his own home the fenco shutting

is the only relief from the blistering
summor weather In Oklahoma. Speed
got a court order and tho fonce was
torn down only to b& rebuilt by Dr.
Smith who was adjudged in contempt

at once from the humble calling of
purveyor of cold drinks aud hot
lunches to a ladles' man of national
notoriety all on account of his llttie
lottery scheme announced fov the first
time In the Mirror week before last.
The press of the country took up the
scheme as a mere matter of news and
special correspondents telegraphed
the story to metropolitan papers In
Uie east with liberal comments on
Mr. Still's Ingenuity. At once the
girls who doubtless have been devis

No Anxiety About Transport Indiana.
Thoro has been some oxpression of
npprehonslon to tho war department
about the fact that the transport In-
diana returning with time-expired
troops from Manila to San Francisco
has not peon reported nt Nagasaki.
The majority of the transports coming
home from tho oaBt have put In at
Nagasaki but It is stated at the war
department that the Indiana was or-
dered to come direct from Manila to
San Francisco nnd thus no uneasiness
on this score need be felt. The In-
diana left Manila on June 20 and is
expected to arrive at Sun Francisco
about ten days hence.
