With solemn and impressivo ceremo-
nies tne corner stone of tho Masonic
temple now being erected at Rroad
and Harrison was laid this afternoon.
The different branches of tho Ma-
sonic order Blue Lodge Scottish and
York Rite Knights Templars and
Shriners together with tho various
other secrot societies of the city and
large numbers of citizens participated
in mo ceremonies.
All the lodges appeared in uniform.
and a procession headed by the Regi.
mental band and followed by tho
Knights Templar mounted formed on
c irst street and marched to the Inter-
section of Harrison and Rroad where
the ceremonies wore held.
D. D. Leach of Oklahoma City dep-
uty past grand master of the Masonic
grand lodge had chargo of tho cere-
monies assisted by Grand Master W.
L. Eagloton of Pawnee Chaplain L.
F. Laverty invoked divine blessing.
The stone was laid with all the solem-
nity governing tho ritual of Manonry.
THE NEW TEMPI.K
Tho new temple will be the homo of
Masons exclusively.
It Is being built by the Ancient and
Accopted Order of Scottish Rite Ma
ons consUtory of Oklahoma and val-
ley of Quthrio.
Scottish Bite Masonrj is altogether
different from nil other forniB of Ma
sonry although a person must first
pass tbe Uluo Lodge tho foundation
stone of Masonry beforo ho can bs
come a member of the Scottish Rito.
Tho Lodge of Perfection Scottish
Rite was organized in Oklahoma three
years ago. Sinco then It has enjoyed
a steady growth and today it numbers
eighty mombcrs. The work and para
phernalia of this body uro rich and
elaborate
Scleral months ago the mombcrs of
tho Scottish Rito ftndlnir no hall suffi
cient for their work in Oklahoma do
cided on tho buhdintr of a temple on
the pattern of the palatial tcmplo of
the Rite at Cincinnati.
Plans for tho tomplo were immedi-
ately drawn and two months ago
actual work was begun. The temple
will contain a larger auditorium stugo
and proscenium than the new Brooks
opera house It will be fitted with all
modern Improvements and contain all
tho acoustics of an opera bouse. It
will bo three stories high and cover
400 feet of ground space. Stono and
brick will be used In its construction.
E L. Blincoo is the superintendent of
tho work. The now building without
tho fittings will cost between $25000
and J30.0O0 and will be the hand-
somest Masonic templo in the south-
west. THE CEREMONIES.
Tho following orders outside of the
Masonic bodies took part in the pa-
rade: Uniform Rank K. of P. Wood-
men of the World A. O. U. W. K. of
P. subordinate lodge Members of
lodges from Oklahoma City Pawnee
Perry and Mulhall were In line. Led
by the band the procession marched
from First to Second street thence
north to Oklahoma avenue; thence
east to Kim; thence south on Elm to
Harrison and west on Harrison to the
building cite.
Members of tbe grand Masonic
Lodge occupied tbe stand. Teugue
Ray and U. C. Guss bad charge of the
box to be deposited in the stone. Ar
riving at tht stono II. S. Cunningham
opened the exercises and Chaplain L.
F Laverty invoked dlvino blessing.
The Regimental band played a selec
tion after which Governor Barnes who
wore a K. T. uniform was called on
for an address. The govenor briefly
traced tho history of Masonry and
talked interestingly of the lesson Ma-
sonry taught- Tbe band played Amer
ica and the Masonic choral club com
posed of Mrs. Grlsscll Miss Klirball
and Messrs. Wlnton Green and Henry
sang several selections. O. D. Leach
performed the ritual work aided by
Messrs. Eagleton Guss Levy and Ray.

Mangum October 4. Sheriff Bla-
lock arrested Louis Crabtreo and
lodged him in jail last Sunday on a
charge of shooting at the sheriff The
shooting occurred in tho sand hills
south of tbe Salt Fork on last Satur-
day. Tho snerlff was riding toward
Louis wnon ne tried to wave him on
with a Winchester and such action
made tbe officer more anxious to see
what was up and he continued to ride
toward him when he broke and ran
with tbe sheriff in pursuit. As he
crowded him too close Louis finally
ilrod at him and get out of reach In
tbe sandhills. Sheriff Ulalock had
only a six shooter. Louis gave bond
yesterday in the sum of 91000 and
was released.
