ISngiand Gas and Coke Co. is prepared
if the lljrht hoube board consents to
set a beacon on Urn which will bl.to
for ten days at least at a height of 125
feet or to feet higher than Hunker
Hill monument The oompanv is to
start its furnaces shortly and it Is
necessary to dispose of tho immonso
amount of gas which it has alroady
stored.
As the plant is in Kverett a suburb
of Hoslon it would not do to simply
release the gas into the air Thsre-
foru the plan has been suggested of
turning it up through tho tall chim-
ney of tho works und setting lire to it.
As this would make a beacon which
would be seen far up mid down tho
coast it has been necessary to apply
to the light house board for permis-
sion as it might mislead mariners
trying to find Huston. It is thought
that tho board will consent.
