back's Zoo was attacked by the lion Brutus yesterday and
severely injured. Madam Piauka was in the cage at tlie time
and forced Brutus to relinquish his prey by (shooting a pistol
near his head and pushing and pulling the lion away. Bost-
wick was chastisiug Spitfire the mate of Brutus.

Potomac cables the navy department from Nassau Uiib morn-
ing as follows: "Potomac arrived at Nassau. Teresa near

water. Tide raising and falling inside. Temporary dock bro-
ken up and movable articles removed by natives. Vulcan not
seen. Natives have been at work since Saturday."

take 10000 barrels of bottled beer to Manila for the soldiers

yet. The Havana militia has been in a state of revolt for
twenty-four hours and have practically been Joined by regulars.
Blanco is left with but a little force fo maintain order. He has
but one batalllon of regulars brought this morning from Nfan-
tauzas that remafns entirely faithful. It is guarding Blanco's
palace. This afternoon more troopB were brougnt from Man-
tanzas. Wednesday night the regulars refused to obey orders
to attack the order of the publico and the civil guard and tl-e
regulars joined the military General Arrolas while incensed
struck one of the soldiers with a eword. Another soldier jumped
onto the general and tried to kill him with his machette. His
aide interfered and received a blow on the arm. Today a truce
prevails Blanco pledging the men of the order of the publico
that they shall receive their pay within twenty-four hours.
The regulars now threaten to revolt unless paid Saturday. The
artillery on Port Cubanas refused to embark for Spain yester
day because they are paid In orders for which they cannot get
more than fifty per cent. The revolttrs c'aim that the specu.
ulators did not pay in full on purchased warrants and that the
profits are divided with the generals. It is reported that the
Cubans and Spanish are fighting In Mantauzas province

woman remembered her vow of ven-

At Chicago last summer she mot

weeks of her society fanned it to
a blaze and again asked her to share
his heart baronial possessions and
title. She told him she would con-

to her Kentucky home and learn his
