KtfPAbA Alii. March 23. Thi c!ty
was swept br a cyclone yesterday
morning in which death and tlls&stor
played a drondful part. Men wero al
mostunught up from the streets before
thoy could And shelter Shutters
roofs etc. gave) way and for two hours
thure was terror and desolation when
the cyclono trussed oil to the north
West coursing along the Chattahoochlo
valley.
Tho roporU soon coming in told of
the terrible devastation. The town of
Ulakoloy in Goorgin was almost lifted
out of existence and people seeking
refuge indoors wore as ImdJy knoekod
around by cracking and falling tim-
bers as wore those on tho outside who
tvern unable to dodge fenrp ralK and
other flying missiles.
The most shocking story of all how-
ever was that which ofune from Ar-
lington Early county. Georgia. It was
about h o'clock when the pupils of Ar-
lington academy began to assemble.
There were about fifty present wheu
L'rofessor Covington noticing the com-
ing storm called them in for shelter.
On and on came the storm with a
whizzing sound increasing until it
lifted two cabins across the way into
midair wrenching them into sitliuteiH
an u muu wuuui a iiunitiui 01 rotten manner
wood. The sight of this so affrighted
tho children that they clung piteonsly
to l'rofessor Walker and l'rofessor
Covington who vainly tried to quiet
them.
A crackling noise was heard find tho
shuttors and swinging doors wore
wrenched from their hinges. Then
came a twisting and a careening and
tho north partition gave way falling
with deadly otTect upon a group of
children who wero clinging to tho pro-
lossors. The doors and wliutous gone.
the storm had full sway within frng-
monta of timbor living in tho n(r the
children thrown helpled boing ouught
up and dashed against the walls. Tno
arlex of the wounded the groans of the
dying nre described as having been
heartrending while all this was going
on.
The people of the town regardless
of tho wreckage of their own homes
ran to the school where they knew
their children were only to rind many
of them dead others wounded and
pinioned beneath tha debris l'rofes-
bor Walker had his arms and legs
broken and oamtot live.
Tho bodies of eight children have
been taken from the ruins of Arling
ton academy and about a dozen others
will die.
From Ilunry county Ala. around
Abbeyvillo there comes stories of
dunth and wreak but no names havo
been received. A family of llvo was
reported killed near Uenevn. A sec-
ond disaster that of Hoods is now
upon tiie county. The rivers and
creeks are swelling with rainfall which

News comes in of the drowning of a

maintained. Wbllo there may be
some differences to bo reconciled be-
tween the two parties and whilo no
doubt they each rvlll keep their
separate and distinct organizations
and that everything can not be just as
one party would have it; and moreover
whilo in the organization of the Fourth
lcgislattvo assembly composed of
members ot these two political parlies
there woro outside parlies friends to

twenty applicants to each position to

Among the acts that wero passed in
carrying out the Hue of thought as
suggested In the campaign I would
moio particularly refer to council bill
No. 34 which dellncs tho time and
ot county commissioners
holding their ressions and tho
manner of awarding contracts
n quiring that all bll's against
the counties should be Olcd
and placed upon tho calendar for ref-
erences and public Inspection and that
all contracts shall bo let to tho lowest
bidder. Also council bill No. 25
which remitted the tax penalty which
had accrued for the taxes of tho year
1805 unavoidably and tho house bill
establishing tho usury law; tho fco and
salary bill cutting tho salaries of
county i llhors and saving to thu tax-
payers of Oklahoma territory hoiiio
blxly thousand dollars; providing for
tho payment of witnesses who attend
court without making a pauper'fl oath.
The enactment of a good banking law
uud a bill changing the tax penalties
from 1 to & per cent a month to one
and one-half per cent a month; the
grass and free range bill which will
bring about an additional leasing of
tho buhool lands which will add about
thirty thousand a year to thu sohool
