People's party held at Su Louis from
July 2 to 45 of the current year you
were unanimously nointnuiou lor
President of tho United States to bo
voted for at the approaching general
election.
"It was known at that time that
you had been nominated by tho Dem-
ocratic party at its convention held
In Chicago a few days before that
time and that you would in all prob-
ability accept tho same in a formal
manner. Your nomination by tho
People's party was not th ore fore
made with any thought that you
were a Populist or that you accepted
all the doctrines declared bv the St.
Louis platform.

with tho murder of Sherman Long In
tho Osago nation) In Janunry 1803

This caso is n noted one and prom-
ises to be tho most important docketed
this torm. DoBsett and Long were
rivals In tho affections of Clementine
Deuoa now Mrs Hickman. The
two met at a dance; Dossett according
to the evidence gavo Long a drink of
poisoned whisky from which ho died.
Tho oltcuinstantial cvldetico against
Dossett was very strong and at the
trial lu August 1601 ho was convicted
and sentenced to hang. Tho case was
taken to the supremo court on a tech-
nicality and Dossett was granted a
new trial. This trial begins today.
Ovor forty wltnossos will bo in attend-
ance and tho taking ot testimony will
continue several days. During the
last trial seventeen days Wore con-
sumed. George Uardner ropresonts
tho dofoudrnt and Attorney Hoffman
will prosecute It is thought that It
will be a hard task to secure a Jury

tions which gave rise to the People's
party the letter then ref -m to tho
nomination of Mr. Hryan by the Dora-
ooruU and says tho People's party at
its second national convention rooog-
nUed In him a man who stands In the
broadest and truest sense for Amer-
ican institutions and American princi-
ples. It then continues:
"If the Democratic jmrty had been
truo to the people and to Its own plat-
form In its selection of a candidate for
Vice President we would not now

nee were short nnd have been cotured
to a general extent by other addresses
of Mr. Hryan.
Mr. Hryan made a number ot
speeches at various points on hi way
to Ijiulsvllle. At Mount Vernon 111
ho spoke to S.iiQO people and at Itv-
ansville IniL to 8000. These were
the most important stops.
