decision of the supreme court which

court and on November 111 last Judge
Scot I again sentenced him to hang on
Friday January II.
For several days prior to this date

sixty day reprieve feeling thai in the

forts were made by Mllligan's friends
and attorneys to secure the passage of

but without success.
Twice during his imprisonment the
condemned man oscared the llrst lime
ciawliug through a ventilator ami
having his freedom twodavs; lite sec-
ond time plunging thiough a glass
door and running bareheaded and
barefooted twenty miles in the mow
only to bo recaptured tho next day.
A week ago for the third lime
passed the death sentence upon Milli-
gan. and though every possible Inllu-
ence was brought to boar upon the
governor to secure a commutation nf
tho sentence to imprisonment for life

did and precedent has been estab
