PROBLEM SOLVED -
We. have made arrangements whereby we can furnish Chickasha
Cheap Fuel.
McALESTER COAL..
In a Jiffy. Buildings Were Saved. In-
candiary Wi at Work.
Last night was a busy time for
the firemen. Two calls came in
and the boys made good in both
cases making a great record for
prompt action and in both instances
quickly gaining control of the con-
suming element.
About S: 15 fire was discovered
in Mobley's barn near the Chris-
tian church. It was not far from
the fire station and the boys were
there in a very few minutes. The
big stream of water soon put the
flames to flignt without serious
damage to the building.
At 4:15 this morning the second
alarm was sounded. The Caldwell
Cottage at Second and Colorado
Avenue was ablaze. Equal prompt-
ness marked the action of the de-
partment. It is a large two story
house occupied by Mrs.
Kendall. The fire originated in a
hall way on the back porch. It is
pretty certain that incendiarism is
responsible for it
Mrs. Kendall says she was aw&k-
ened by a noise in the rear of the
house and at the same time the
odor of kerosene was very percep-
tible to her. ' Her bed room was
so situate 1 that from the window
she could command a view of the
back porch. Lo 'king out she saw
a man strike a match and immedi-
ately dash away.
The oil had evidently been well
distributed for at once flames
burst forth from the porch and
kitchen. The fire alarm was
turned in promptly but the flames
were doing great damage and mak-
ing rapid headway when the boys
arrived. The house was saved but
nearly everyting in it was greatly
damaged either by flames or water.
Mrs. Kendall had no insurance.
The building is owned by J. P.
Nail and the loss is fully covered
by insurance.

"Old Glory" now floats proudly
over the West school building.
The fla raising ceremonies yes-
terday were attended by a multi-
tude of people pupils teachers
patrons and friends being present
to do honor to the Nation's em-
blem. The school is indebted to C. M.
Fechheimer for the handsome flag
that was unfurled to the breezes
The boys and girls are grateful to
the donor and proud of his gift.
The principal part of the ceremo-
nies yesterday was the address by
Reford Bond which although en-
tirely 'mpromptu. was finished
scholarly eloquent and breathed
the patriotic spirit of the occasion.
Mr. Bond's addresses always please
but it was the subject of general
remark that he was particular'
felicitous in his choice phrases
sentiments and thoughts in the ad-
dress. Supt. Staley made this ad-
dress in response. Mr. Suley has
not been much known as a public
speaker but he showed by eloquent
periods clothed in the choisest
English that he was equal to any
emergency and brought forth great
applau;e.
After the flag raising ceremonies
were concluded theregularpatron's
meeting was held. The high
school assembly room was crowded
with visitors and a program of very-
high order was carried out. Each
of the grades cotitiibuted to the
exercises all of which were inter-
esting reflecting credit on teachers
and pupils. Following is the pro-
gram in full.
- Music Hazel Remington.
Drill bytenlittle girls firstgrade.
Recitation Laveta Jones.
Solo Rosa Crowley.
Song by six little girls second
grade.
Recitation Montreas Wantland.
Recitation Helen Kimbro.
Solo Nellie Booth.
Recitation Josephiue Dickerson.
Song by fifteen children.
Recitation. Delia Strickland.
Song Nellie Powar.
Instrumental Solo Bernice
Womeldorf.
Solo Dora Feaster.
A pleasing part of the program
was the presentation of several
handsome pictures to the schcolby
Mrs. Jno. A. McClure in behalf of
her children who are pupils Then
came the informal part of theieet-
ing. G. H. Evans made brief re
marks. J. H. Venable was called
upon and made an earnest address
that was full of good thought that
left a splendid impreseionon his
! hearers. Miss Frances Davis was
called upon for a reading and
I graciously responded with one of
her best selections.
I A surprise had been prepared by
j the teachers and pupils iu the way
!of refreshments. Delicious cake
and coffee were served and the af
lernoon was fittingly closed with s
pleasant period of social intercourse.
