WHISTLE FOR SCHOOL.
Mr. Wibley's Steam Lanndry
Whistle Will Tell tho Signals
at Various Hours.
The new school buildings ol
Chi ikasba are nona of them pro-
vided with school belle and as we
now have tdmost everything e'se
in the wy of convenience for the
children many persons have re-
marked the absence of the familiar
tinkle of the bell calling the chil-
dren to study recitation retee8 or
recreation as the uaso may be.
The fact is school bv.Us are be-
coming obsolete in many places
and as we have made progress in
other lines the children have
learned to place more dependence
in the clock than in the bell. But
the tact remains that the bell is a
great convenience and in its ab-
sence arrangements have been made
with C. S. Wiblcy to sound the
whistle at his steam laundry at
certain hours
The first whistle will be blown
at 8:25 a. m. the secoud at 8:55 a.
m. and children should not le-ive
homo for school until after the
first whistle has been sounded.
The schools are maning excel-
lent progress. The first week the
total enrollment reachea 1001) and
it is predicted it will so to 1100
this mouth. There are 75 or SO
scholars In the high school which
is a good indication ot au excellent
attendance.
