years. Last Thursday noon he
drilled in a mighty gusher in south-
ern Texas located in a 'i0" acre
tract eighteen miles ftotn Sabine
Pass on the Sabine river and four-
teen miles froan Port Arthur in
Jefferson county.
The well was drilled in Thursday

Will Proceed.
Washington Jan. 1 1 . The first
ioiiiortant move made by the In-
terior Department officials to in-
uugercte the work of completing
allottmentg on the Kiowa and Co-
manche Koervution in Oklahoma
was taken today when instruc-
tions were sent to the crew which
recently suspended operation to
prepare to go ahead with the work.
Inspector Nessler was in confer-
ence with the officials today and
he will go to Oklahoma on Mon-
day to again take charge of the
crews in the held. On Monday
it will le decided by the officials
whether the department shall un
dertake the task of making trac-
ings and marking mouuments or
whether it shall be let on contract.
The department is now in posses
sion of data on which to act on
this iioiiit. Everything will be
done by Inspector Nessler - to ex-
pedite the work in the Kiowa and
Comanche Reservation in order
that the lands may lie opened to
settlement at the earliest tioasihle
Washington D. C Jan. 12.
Mr. Carter of Montana called up
the bill reapportioning the repre-
sentatives of tbe I'nited States
among the several states. Without
debate it was passed precisely as it
came from the house. It now goes
lo the president for bis signature.
I'nder tbe bill as passed today no
state loses a representative and the
following make gains: Illinois New
York and Texas tinea each; Min-
nesota New Jersey nd Pennsyl-
vania two each and Arkanaas
California Colorado Connecticut
Florida Louisiana Massachusetts
Mississippi Missouri North Caro
lina North Dakota Washington
West Virginia and Wisconsin one
each.

a new s.ate is cdmitted the repre-
sentative assigned to it shall be in
addition to the number assigned to
it in tbe hill. It also adds a pro-
vision never hitherto incorporated
in a reapportionment bill to the ef-
fect that congressional district in
addition to being ''contiguous"
shall also be "compact." States
which arc allowed additional repre-
sentatives by the bill shall by its
terms elect them at large until the
legislature shall redistrict the state.

A Topeka man lost a small opal
set out of his ring and went to the
jeweler to have it replaced. Re-
turning home he found the lost set
putting it in bis mouth for safe
keeping hurr'ed back to the
Jeweler's to have that set used in-
stead of new opal. Rushing into
the store he said: "Sty I've found
the old set so don't use that iicm
one." He attempted to remove
the Hone from his mouth 'gave a
gulp looked sheepish ani said:
