Last week Avliilo at .Red Fork
ranch wo learned that Texas or
Spanish evcr is prevalent among a
few cattle on the strip. C. T. Gorton
of Gorton Bros. holding on Preacher
creek reports having lost four or live
head with a fever of this nature but
thus far where deaths have occurred
has been confined' to a bunch which
they recently brought down from
Kansas and he seems to be positive
iu)w that the cattle w re diseased
before bringing them down. The
disease is not spreading however
but Mr. Gorton is taking every pre-
caution possible to keep the sick
ones remote trom other catiie.

If the Southwestern Stage Co.
would run a daily coach between
Caldwell and Fort Keno U would
make more money. It must either
do that or else provide Mime means
to facilitate the transportation of
express matter between the two
points. The people of this section
are kicking like a whole caballado
of mules and unless the stago com-
pany does something to relievo the
pressure there will 1m- music in the
air at no distant day .-"-Oald well

CANTONMENT LOU A US.
The parly of young folks who
were visiting last week with R. L
Collins and Alhia Williams at I tod
Fork ranch returned after a grand
jollification of live or six day's 'dura-
tion.. A portion of the party re-
mained only threo days while tho
remainder stayed until the time set
to return. Tho party also visited
some eowr camps near- Red Fork
and seemed well pleased with tho
reception received at tho hands of
the owners oi the camps and all
cspooially the Jadics- were greatly
taken up witlijthe novel and ro-
mantic sights about the camps.
What the ladies were more especial-
ly delighted with was -the ride to
Cedar Grove located on tho Cimar-
ron fifteen miles below the ranch
a-noted point in that section which
is simply a grand panorama of beau-
ty. On Saturday F. B. Jlaitchison
was to join the party but owing to
his non-departure until -late in the
evening from the-Agency hehadrto
sooner reached Clear Fork when ho
was met by a terrific wind and -rain
storm which lie did not know But
what would terminate in a "slycoon."
According to Frank's story after
pausing for a moment he deemed
it prudent not to- venture farther
not that he cared so much for him-
self but it was contrary to -his re-
ligious principles to keep his horse
out in the rain and upon those
grounds he returned to the Agency
As the storm was a pretty severe
one Frank now remarks with much
glee of his escapade even though ho
was deprived of his anticipated pic-nic-at
a nomadic cow camp.
John Volzj-of Leavenworth IC.au.
formerly post beef contractor at UHis
place was here recently on a visit.
That popular young officer Lieut.
Tilton dropped in upon us the fifet

meet.
