These people aro from north-
east Louisana and come to us
in splendid shape. They have
l en good horse:- and mules:
wagons and Initio; fanning
imploniets of all kinds. They
are splendid types and wilMie
a credit to our town and com

Mr. L. INigh and (!. (iieon

remains to he seen whether the
lily whites can so hypnotize the
Xegroes as to cheat thorn this
time.
When jim crow stroet cats
aio put on in Muscogee then
every Xegi:o in the city should
walk or ride in his own car-
i iago. It is a duty wo owe our-
selves and the race.

I hi of x rd n tore. Oklahoma ad
dressed an open loiter to 'the
legislature of Oklahoma asking
for something. And as we see
it they have presented a case
from a jim crow crow point of
view. While Drown and his
friends may be right yet when
the whole article is read we can
not agree with them.
We do not wish social equali
ty and neither do we enjoy
seeing white men given the
license to seduce (Job nee. girls
and snare Colored women with-
out recourse or redress on the
scoundrels fn fact all w
ask is our rights under the law
and we t bink that no self r -sped
ing Negro could ask for
more or be satislied with an -thing
less
It should not be neccessai v
for us to petition for our lawlul
rights but if they are withheld
then we should light for iheni
and usetluMoiuts and all other
means at our command to se
cure them.
We are glad Col. ' Robert L.
Owen got the long'terin as
United States senator lie has
always dealt squarely by our
people.
It is to ho hoped that none of
our people will Use harsh means
or methods in dealing with Jim
Crow. Let- us obey the law no
matter how distasteful it may
be: -
Now is thi1 time for our peo-
ple of inean-s to come and buy
homes while lands are cheap
and where Ihov have the chance
to help build up a new-state.

The .Negroes as part and
parcel of Mho Republican party
should have some representation
The only thing we now ask is
that our people f.ioin the South
come to the new slate where
lands aio cheap and where
there is yet a chance to make a
record for the race in spite ofj
the fact that some of the he
hounds are in (lie saddle.
After all a correct summary
of present conditions will leveal
the fact that there are a few of
the supposed superior race who
believe in right and one man in
the right will eventually become
a majority.
There are evidences of good
!Vol7Tooker T Washington is
doing to make the Negro a factor
in thN country. No matter
what his faults have been and
may bo now (he organization
of the Negro Ihisiness League
has taken the Negro from'
active participation in oilics
to that of material progress
Instead of making politics the
direct object of Negro- citizen-
ship politics is an incident and
in every state in the Union the
Negro is scheming how to earn
money aul make himself a
business man ami business
factor. It was ) Washington
who lir&t instilled into the
minds of colored Americans the
impoi tance of establishing busi-
ness enterprises.
Look if you please. at. tie
progiess the Negro has made in
business in the city of Wash-
ington. lie no longer looks to
the prejudiced white man for
accommodation in ding stores
grocery establishments restau-
rants eating houses saloons
and the like. In the. medical
profession he is on a par with
his white competitor. In law
he gets his share of business.
)v Washington should be
commended for this great busi
ness organization that has been
and is now such a benefit to the
Neg.ro.
(io where you may you w ill
see the Negro doing whathis
white brother is doing lie is
getting there and the credit is
due to the man who has made
the Negro in business a factor.
