MURDER
MOST FOUL. POLITY
CAL VAMPIRES
Bathe In Human
Blood.
Mr. Fdifor kindly publish the
the true story of the murder of
J. C. Adams; it is as follows:
On the evening of September
17 after the polls had closed in
our beautiful little city it was
suggested by Mr. Vandiver one
of the election judges that he
had better take the ballot box
Jo Fufaula the county site of
Mcintosh county. All agreed
to this suggestion hut after
wards this judge got in com
munication with J. JJ. Lucas of
Checotah and decided thai lie
would carry the box to Checo
fab. This sudden change very
naturally created the suspicion
in the miudsof the Colored peo-
ple that something was wrong-
so they offered to send an es-
cort along with Vandiver
which offer he accepted re-
marking that he would not
object if a dozen went. How-
ever only live went; one while
and four Colored Republicans.
Vandiver. and Hood both
elect ion judges carried tho
ballot box to Wrights hotel in
Checotah and then Ixjth of them
left the box at different times
presumably to see J. II. Lucas
the Democratic committeeman
thus leaving the ballot box in
the hotel near which (he five
escorts wore stationed. Wfter
sometime the faithful gaurd-
iaus seeing signs of discontent'
among the rough element con-
cluded to leave. Just as they
were leaving George Odom
Democratic Cit.y Marshall ap--pea
rod on the scene and - with a
volley of profanity that would
shame iho devil himself flour-
ished Ins-revolver and threaten-
ed the lives of the five num.
Adams threw up his hands as
he was commanded and was
shot dead on the spot; the while
man. Mr. Thomas was brutally
beaten over the head wiih a
six shooter by Odom and would
have been killed but for the
interference of a sober citizen
who discovered (hat Thomas
was a Mason.
Did these judges when they
went to see Lucas plot to have
the men from Rentiosville
murdered? Did they desire -lo
steal the box because it came
from a Colored colnmuiiiLy and
was therefore overwhelmingly
Republican? After tho murder
of Adams Odom was arrested
by Frank Jones Deputy United
Stales Marshall and carried Iq
jail.
This killing was a cold blooded
murder done for political
reason and the excuse of drunk-
enness on tho part of the officer
should not stay the execution
of tho murderer. Our earnest
hope is that the officers of the
law will see that tho murderer
receives the full punishment
which the law prescribes for
such red-handed deeds.
