THE DUTY OF SELF
Respecting Colored
Men.
Tho Into Constitutional Con-
vention elected delegates diioet
i rim the people and. which is
suggestive of the sentiment of
tho people of Oklahoma as it
now exists and since thai body
of men representing no doubt
the wish us of then constituents
took especial pains to hold our
race up to public ridicule and
Scorn and since the political
party to whom we have for
years given allegiance utterly
eschewed taking up our fight
but remained silent and
in many cases laughed in
t.heir sleeves theiehy and
Have given to our enemy
the Democratic party encour-
agement along these lines
and since every act every word
or expression made by that Con.
volition was. is. and has been
inimical to our well being in the
new stale and as stronger
proofs that we are being ignor-
ed it might be well for colored
men to fully understand that
l he .Republican managers have
iatterly fui warded written invi
tatious to all men who are in the
least pronounced in party mat
Vers to meet at Oklahoma City
for the purpose of outlining a
the course which the parly
should take and never has.it
appears that out of our large
colored population been one a
single oik of sufficient impor-
tance to the parjy to have met
with them so that we to might
be apprised of the workings of
tho parly to which wo contri-
bute so much.
Now. be it resolved that we
ask every SKLF UESPKOT-
INCf colored man to affix his
name to this document that
wemakeitan open public doc
union t so that "lie who runs
may road" our position in the
coining contest. I"irst. That
we do not believe it prudent
that we vote' for the adoption
of the Constitution as presented
we hereby sign this as our
pledge to vote for no officer
while we are voting the yoke
off our own shoulders by cabl-
ing this vote against' the Cons-
titution. That we respectfully
request the Republicans who
may aspire for place to excuse
those who have signed this and
similar documents in self pro
lection from voting as ordi-
narily they would vote were it
not voting personal harm to
each and every one of us.
Respectfully submitted.
The above was sent us by a
prominent politician of Okla.

The Negroes have good mem-
ories and they can't forget what
O'JIara said last year that down
in the heart of every w bite man
(he meant Democrat) there was
a lynching bee.
Pat Levi says he is home for
keeps and that all of his efforts
will be against theyhide-bound

striving to control the new state
and disfranchise a large per
cent ol the Republican party.
All the boys are getting in har-
ness for their rights.
The report sent to the Cincin-
nati paper by some correspond
ent from this town was one of
the most damnable lies evei
published. Of course the fellow
who sent it was a Democrat.
We have received letters from
all over the country asking for
information about the race war
iii Muskogee and every time we
have tried to give the quotation
from Shakespeare "that it is an
odious lie'5 and we know that
at the least all decent people
agree with us.
