Rcports Circulated About Negroes of Our
steading. Not True.
Last Tuesday night a Negro
coal thief Avas arrest 1 and the
officers failed to carry him to jail
at once but instead allowed the
Negro to start home and from
this wavering from duty came
the trouble that was published
in our (white) dailies as a riot
and the publication in our mef.
ropolitan dailies of the sajne
misleading a n d untruthful
statements. As a matter of
fact there is no great t"ouble
down hero and there is no real
hero btaring the sobrique of Bill
Rupei t. There was a great out
pouring of the rabble white ele-
ment of the lowest stratum to
aveng the supposed murder of a
supposed brave policeman. Now
no policeman had been killed.
No one had been hurt. Some
supposed officers and a few real
officers had gone to arrest some
supposed coal thieves. 3n their
ignorarc3. fright and excite-
ment they arrested a lawal i ling
citizen (a groceryman and his
wife) and lei the thief escape
they fired volley after voley in-
to the homes of innocent and un
suspecting Negroes wounding
some seriously and then th jy
fled in terror. Afterwards' a
U. 8. mirshall came and the
Negroes charged with crime
weie arrested without the firing
of a single gun. There is no
race war here and will be none

at all times w re loyal to the

they should be punished and

The Cimeter wishes to call th

to say that Air. Davis makes a

and fakes that the Lincoln club
has been guilty of they capped
the climax when they j assed a
lesolution thanking ex-postmasr
tor Estes for appointing colored
young men to position in the
post office: Did they not know
that those young men passed the
civil service examination and
were appointed by them and
that Mr. Estes had no power in
