SOCIAL AT METHODIST CHURCH A
SUCCESS
The union meeting of the Missionary

clemency of the weather the meeting
was held in the church instead of on coming school year

the lawn as arranged. A most de-
lightful program was given which was
enjoyed by all. One feature of the
program especially appreciated by those
present was the saxophone solos by
Herbert Smith accompanied by
Vesta Carter at the piano. While
Herbert does not profess to be an
artist those who listened to his music
Friday evening declare that he is su-
perior to any talent presented at our
1 last chautauqua. We are nlwnys mighty
i proud of our home folk. Much inspir-
j ation and missionary zeal was derived
' from the spendid papers by Mrs. It. G.
Brown and Mrs J. W. Cayler also the
missionary items quoted by mem-
bers in response to roll call were ex-
I cellent and very instructive. Not only
were the members of the different so-
cieties drawn into a closer bond of in-
I terest and good fellowship but the
visitoralso received much instruction
and inspiration for doing his "bit" to-
ward extending the Gospel message of
i Christ. Too many people aie prone to
; leave the Missionary work to the mis-
' sionaries ministers and missionary so-
' cieties but it is really the duty of every
one to assist in carrying out Christ's
. great command of "Go ye into all the
world and preach the Gospel unto every
' creature."
i After the program refreshments of
ice cream and cake weie served and
the crowd dispersed having experienced
a most pleasant and profitable evening.

particulars but according to reports the
child a boy of nbout nine years of age
was playing on the roof of a cave. He
climbed to the doorway that was built
up some eight or ten feet and fell from
there to the cement walk below. It
was not thought at first that he was
badly injured but he finally grew worse
and the doctors advised his parents to
take him to a hospital. They started
to Liberal Kansas with him but he
died before reaching there. It was a
very sad accident and The Herald ex-
tends sincercst sympathies to the sor-
rowing family.
A glance at the teachers names giv-
en below spells success beyond any
doubt for the coming school year.

Seven men $70.00 in money on the
table and four fines of 929.00 each was
the result of a haul in the Sand Hills
Friday of last week- by the sheriff's
force. There has been much evidence
of promiscous gambling " on the out-
skirts of Deaver lf late and the .sher
iff's force have been on the job as Fri-1
day's haul indicates. Pretty good indi-1
cation that Sheriir Bridgewaterand his j
men intend to uphold the law nnd es- j
tablish order. Go to it. We are for .
you. The innocent will not sutler. The

all this week is on. Large crowds are
taking advantage"of the opportunity to

proving a success. The children and
some even of older years aro enjoying
the Ferris wheel tho merry-go-round

luck for thosii elusive bnskets. dolls and
what-not which seem so easy to win yet
which nearly always slip by.
Tho carnival is filling u place that is
good fof the people and good for the
town.

AEROPLANE PARACHUTE LEAP
Loy Leffingwell representative of
the Patriot Truck Company of Oklaho
ma City was here this week and sign-
ed up a contract with the County Fair

here and passengers will be taken for
a joy ride among the clouds'. This at-
traction is absolutely guaranteed. Plan
to see it.
